Hey REM - Down Potting Rehabilitation for your Kona Sharwil !! I have done the same thing with fairly good results. Once the tree recovers and begins to flourish, you can put it in-ground again. Keep me posted on the Luna please. We're getting quite a bit of wind up here in the San Fernando Valley. Bummer about the PAC-12 breaking up :(

I think the Kona is ready to go back into the ground. Honestly I didn't think it would make it from what I pulled out of the ground, almost now roots. Luna update in the future for sure. @@neurocognitive

Your trees are looking good. Those Bacon look tasty. I really like Bacon, so creamy. It really reminds me of Fuerte. My Bacon is doing really well this year. I increased the watering time and it has responded well. It only has one fruit because a rodent got the other one. I covered it in a red Solo cup and so far that has kept the critters away. Thanks for sharing

I've had lots of issues in orange county with critters stealing my fruit too but using opaque organza bags seems to work (though not 100 percent of the time). If you use the transparent ones, birds will give up but not squirrels. Because the mesh is heavy duty you can use the bags for several years.

Im in Elsinore and last year I planted a Fuerte and hass together, after giving up on my 16+ year old huge avocado seedling tree that never produces , I threatened it already that if it doesn’t fruit in another year I’m cutting it down and grafting another variety on the rootstock
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 8 ай бұрын
Try to girdle your old avocado that hasn't fruited and it may provide fruit quickly. That way you can see if the fruit that you have from your ceiling is worth keeping. I'm planning on growing out some of my seedling avocados also just for fun.

REM I'm coming from a video by the OC Backyard Gardner and he uses plastic produce clam shell containers to protect his avos from rodents. I'm thinking the driscolls strawberry ones from costco would work, the grape ones or even the blueberry in larger quantity because the plastic clam boxes are deep enough to accomodate an avocado maybe even stick in a few fruit that are in the same cluster per box good luck 🚫 🐿🐀🚫

Would you say maluma is good to buy from brokaw or is maluma a week or slow growing varity? How is your bay giant graft doing ? Is graft still green or breaking out of parafilm ?
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 4 ай бұрын
The bay giant doesn't look good on the tree but still green on the seedlings. The Oaklando already pushed out and started breaking through the para film. Not sure about Maluma yet, the one I got was on dusa for stock. I don't think Brokaw has any for sale at the moment.

@@AvocadoTalk that's good on your grafts green is good sign, Brokaw had Maluma 3 weeks ago but could be out by now, reason I asked was you said in your other video people that bought Maluma from Brokaw died so I wondered if it's a weaker genetic tree than average

@AvocadoTalk Ай бұрын
Just bad news because they're still going to try to charge the full fee for us back yard gardeners. I'm not willing to spend the full 500$+ to get just 1 tree, crazy. I'll keep the community updated once I hear more.
@gypsy317
@gypsy317 Ай бұрын
@@AvocadoTalk I see, yeah, was curious. I'm a commercial grower and I like the idea of a small B type tree to use as a pollinator for Hass and Gem trees but I think the fee structure is a no-go. Also, what if you wanted to sell your farm, that liability I suppose would have to be paid off. Anyway I don't think it will take off with Calif growers.
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk Ай бұрын
@@gypsy317 A lot of hype, until I see and hear more proof that it is what it is then I'm slow to jump in. On the flip side, I am just an enthusiast so I wouldn't mind playing around to see if it is any good. SC Gold might be a better bet.

@@greenthumb6697 that's great. I got 1 fruit from my Edranol and it's sizing up nicely. I think the Duke 7 rootstock is a beast, my Kona on Duke is growing well also.
