I always thought he was kinda corny back in the day but I listened to ALL his shit on repeat. Funny thing is, I just wasn’t really listening I was just jamming. I’m still unearthing new metaphors and double or triple meanings to each line. I had to truly grow up before I could absorb the message and understand his power. I remember hearing Kick, Push on MTV when it came out back when I was in 8th grade and being so in love with it right away. Until that point, I didn't think hip-hop could embrace skateboarding lol. I've never been a skateboarder, but it was dope. I've only heard that song from him, but even today, it pops up into my head randomly without listening to it for long stretches of years. There are very few songs that do that to me!
