LURE FISHING FOR BASS IN WINTER | I WENT BACK FOR MORE | BASS ON SURFACE LURES

In this video I fish a mark where I'd had some success the day before targeting bass on surface lures. It was another wet and windy day, but the conditions where just right to try and tempt a bass off the top. I started the session using the Patchinko 140 in 'Nacre' where I managed to hook a couple of fish to get things started. I then swapped to a 25g Samson Shad in 'White' which got me into another bass on the first cast. This was a short session but still provided a lot of fun in wintery conditions.

I used to fish off the rock for years for pollock and various other types of fish. I always preferred to wear hiking boots and i thought by now they would have brought out studed boots the same as the waders. I also used to wear studed waders as they gave me much better grip. " but the down side was when the sun was out in the middle of summer, you would end up soken wet with sweat. I'am sure their's a market for studed hiking boots. A couple of my mates said they would buy them if they wear available and so did my son's. Anyway great fishing cal, as per usual. I'am jealous. 😅 Just keep those awesome videos coming. Their mind blowing. Tight lines mate. 👍

@FISHING WITH CAL That sounds very interesting. I know my son's definitely would like a pair of studded boots, so i'am going to have a look for them. Thanks for getting back to me. Also thanks for letting me know. 👍 Just one more thing, what's the pollock fishing like in Guernsey ? And can you pitch a tent anywhere near the coast ? Or are they strict rules. My son's are thinking about taking their car over for a few days as one of my my son's has problems with his knee 's and cannot walk too far.

@@mattwebster7266 No worries. The pollock fishing isn’t great! It’s hard work finding anything half decent from the shore. The wrecks offshore can be good though. As far as setting up tents, I’m pretty sure you’re not allowed to stay over night in them unless it’s a designated area. You’d be fine to fish through the night with a tent on the beach though.

You are sure footed on those rocks. Aren’t they slippery? Hungry for a feed of fish and watch you throwing them back. I can dream.

I've had similar experiences with the birds going for the surface lures, but i think it helped me, hear me out. The lure is making noise on the top, the fish definitely know its there. They might not be too pushed on it, but when the birds start swooping down and splashing for the lure i think it would put the bass into feeding mode because they're thinking i better get this before the bird does. What you reckon?

Great stuff Cal. Would you try a surface lure in heavily coloured water?

Yeah, providing it wasn’t too deep. I’d use a surface lure with a rattle in it and work it slightly slower with a few pauses. If the water was coloured, I’d use a white surface lure 90% of the time.

Thanks. The rod is 9ft. I really like this rod yeah, it’s great for surface lures and hard lures. My Nomura rod snapped quite a while ago, I was having some guides replaced on it and the tip broke off.
