@Chris Fish and Fitness Which one would be best for crossfit as it includes both step ups and box jumps?
@Lurtz14301
@Lurtz14301 Жыл бұрын
I would say the wood box because it’s just so much better for step ups. The downside is a lot of times in CrossFit you are doing box jumps in a fatigued state and this can significantly increase your chances of missing a jump and wrecking your shins. If you are doing weighted step ups I would say for sure go with the wood box. If you are doing just bodyweight step ups and a lot of box jumps I would say the foam box is better as long as you have a wall to put it up against. If you just put it in the middle of a room it’ll fall over when you jump on it.

They make 2 styles of 3 in 1 foam boxes - a 16 lbs one, and a 60 lbs one. Do you think the weight is part of the issue to the stability of the foam plyo box? Maybe the 60 lbs foam plyo box would not fall over as easily?

Wouldn’t really matter. Whatever is cheaper. If you’re training barefoot I’d get the foam, shoes I’d go with the wood unless you are worried about messing up your shins. Either will work just fine. Foam is probably cheaper for shipping. Also work on some lower body strengthening and lower level plyometrics.

@Lurtz14301
@Lurtz14301 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, just make sure you have it backed up to a wall so it doesn’t slide out. I’ve done them with around 200 lbs and it works fine. If you are gonna go much heavier and for higher rep sets it might start to compress down a little too much.

I'm looking for a plyo box for my kids basketball team. They are 9 and 7 years old. What is better for younger kids? Will the stability of the foam be an issue for them?
@Lurtz14301
@Lurtz14301 8 ай бұрын
If you have a wall you can put it up against then I would go with foam 100% cuz they won’t get hurt if they miss the landing. If you don’t have a wall you may have to go with wood because it’s very easy to land with forward momentum and the box will fly out from under them. I’ve heard they now have heavier foam boxes which may be the best of both worlds but I don’t have any experience with them.

Is the wood one good for hip thrusts, I’m short so I feel like the foam one will be too tall for me :/
@Lurtz14301
@Lurtz14301 3 жыл бұрын
Well the ones I have are all the same size. They do make a smaller wood one but I don’t know if they make a smaller foam one. The wood would work, lol, but I feel like you would need to put a folded up towel or something under your back/shoulders and you would be more focused on keeping it there than getting a good glute contraction. I’ll research some but the foam box is a rectangle and if you rotate it the top would either be 20 inches, 24 inches, or 30 inches. Having it on 20 would probably be fine even if you are short and if it’s too tall you could always put it by a staircase and put your feet on the bottom step too.
@Lurtz14301
@Lurtz14301 3 жыл бұрын
Ok just checked Amazon which is actually a pretty good place to buy them and there are several smaller options than this 20 24 30. They have a 16 18 20 and a 18 20 24 and some others as well. So if you don’t plan on doing box jumps with the 30 inch side of the box you could definitely get one of these smaller ones. They’re cheaper too.

@Lurtz14301
@Lurtz14301 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you’re gonna do step ups it’s way better and I think for box squats it’ll be quite a bit better too. Pigeon should be fine just put down a towel so your ankle bone doesn’t push into the wood. Just be careful with box jumps. Otherwise search for a super hard foam one but I would recommend the wood one

Take a plywood box. Add rubber edging to all corners. Fill in with thin foam padding. Best of worlds. Should be able to make it yourself for under $100. Why do people pay so much for a simple plywood box that can easily be made for a single sheet of plywood???

Right now to buy the foam boxes on Amazon is like $80 and a wood one is around $100 and comes pre drilled and sanded. I like doing some things myself and have definitely made several trips to menards to make workout gear but I don’t have the tools to make a box and sand it down nicely for any cheaper.
