It's absurd how Emma Anderson's name gets ignored in every music magazine discussion about great guitar players. She's amazing.

Miku _Takanashi you very rarely hear him Described that way . In fact his musical ability is often cited as being limited. However with those limited skills he wrote some very memorable songs. In fact his technical playing skills and songwriting often play second fiddle to the drama surrounding his life, relationships and role in the "Seattle Scene" that epitomized "grunge" which is what most people are obsessed about more so than the music itself. He became an involuntary spokesman for a scene and generation in spite of his own self-admitted musical limitations and lack of desire to be famous. People have mythologized him as the saint that killed hair metal (something that everyone at the time not into that shit were thankful for) and romanticized his music/life. Kurt would be the first to agree with your assessment of his talent. That being said music isn't a competition so why bother comparing?

The first time I heard of Lush was about 1:30AM on a Sunday morning in March, 1991 when I awoke from a deep sleep on my couch; had the tv tuned into 120 Minutes on MTV. I thought I was dreaming while hearing this, sat up rubbed my eyes and saw these lovely girls singing this ethereal, angelic tune. I just sat there totally enraptured by the sonic blast, the jingly jangly guitars...I've never forgotten that moment.

As much as I love Miki and her more or less being what everyone thinks of when remembering Lush, Emma's contributions to Lush were what transformed the band into the beloved gem we all know and love now. She's an incredibly underrated guitar player (listen to Desire Lines or Never Never off Split and tell me I'm wrong). I also find that the majority of my favorite songs by Lush were written by her and not Miki. And then tragically we only ever got one song where she sang primary vocal and it was on an EP (Astronaut); it's one of the most underrated Shoegaze songs ever, much less Lush songs. The woman is essentially female Kevin Shields, she's awesome!

I was almost exclusively into extreme metal during the early 90s. I heard some songs from Spooky played on a local college radio station, however, and found them so infectious and mesmerizing that I had to go out and buy the CD, an effort which I regarded at the time as quite a risk since it was so different from the Carcass and Obituary that was my typical record-buying fare. I purchased Split and Gala on CD by the late 90s, then the Mad Love and Scar EPs earlier this decade (2010s) as digital downloads from Amazon.
