Worked for a coach store and found out that you can know if it’s a real full price bag that happened to end up at the outlet by looking at the serial number. If it starts with F the item was made for the outlet. For my coach peeps

When I go to outlets, I ask the salesperson for the items from the actual store. And they’ll bring a few items, it’s usually 3 or 4 things.

The regular ones in the regular store are VERY CHEAP to produce as well! 😂

I used to dream one day to buy designer bag like Gucci or LV, lately I am disgusted by them and better will give my hard earned money to smaller not that famous designers or somebody who design and make their real leather bags and sell on Etsy, Instagram etc…

This is why I stay away from outlets. If I’m going to purchase pricey items I don’t want to worry that they are sub par to grab what I’ve been led to believe is a deal. 🙅🏽‍♀️

This is where they make the most money- selling them for a cheaper price with cheaper materials ...hmmm... this just goes to show that their target audience for the actual stores are not enough and need to grade down as the wider audience are in the outlet stores

So.. I heard in Italy, there are certain regions where "made for outlet" is against the law and punishable by a fine because they want consumers to have the legitimate expectation of getting products from previous collections. More specifically "The Mall" in Tuscany 🤔

Bottom line, no handbag is worth 2 or 5 or 10 thousand dollars. As long as women are willing to pay it, it will continue to exist. If the women of the world banned Prada or Coach or Gucci for two weeks - didn't buy anything - they'd be forced to drastically reduce their prices or go out of business. Simple.

Because people buy luxury Brands to show off more so than they do for their quality. Go ahead and tell me that I'm wrong, and then think of all of the people who love to flash their Gucci everything or their Louis Vuitton bag. Yes, there are people who buy luxury brands for high quality handmade products, and there are those who say that that's why they buy them, and there are those who just outright buy them to show off. The truth is, you can find independent Crafts People who also Source high quality materials and make their bags or their clothes or whatever by hand, and they sell products that are going to last you a lifetime, same as any of the big name brands, but without the fancy name

I bought a bag from Coach in Bicester. I use that leather bag every day for 4 years and it looks the same as the day I bought it.

I’ve actually had decent luck with the outlets. I always manage to get the actual retail pieces. Asking the sales associates goes a long way.

This is true for most outlets. Oftentimes the label tells it’s origin because the labels inside the garments will say the name of the store and then outlet. The quality’s always lesser. 😔

I took a sociology class in college where they taught us all this. They said even the dollar stores do it. That’s why you’ll see, let’s say finish quantum 4 pack for $1.25. The regular stores don’t even sell that size. Also, Heinz will make a ketchup and name it some off brand and change the size and sell it at the $1.25 store. If you look you will notice a lot of this stuff. They also, at outlets, sell misfit stuff. It could be something as simple as the stitch was supposed to be black but it’s blue or it was supposed to be a double stitch and it’s only 1. Most of it you don’t notice. I did, however once, get an Armani shirt where the left arm was longer than the right. I didn’t notice until I put it on and it was hanging over my hand. Those things are rare but it happens.

Yep. I realized this over a decade ago. Outlets were for unsold goods. But then stores were created to specifically sale the cheaper items, because outlets became popular. Any time something is mass produced like that the quality goes down. But the price somehow remains the same or increases.

Glad I don’t obsess over labels, I knew brands do this that is why it’s so much cheaper. Sometimes you may be lucky to get a piece from the actual store, I first noticed this years ago because I like to feel and examine materials and can tell quality right away.

In the USA, our outlet stores sometimes sell the actual stores merchandize if it's end of line, or a return for example.

This is not true in generale. The mall shops (the one mentioned in Italy in Incisa, near Florence) like Prada and Gucci sells previous collections items mainly. Source: me, who actually go shopping there yearly to catch a few stunning pieces from past collections😊

This is VERY true. But, if you love love love luxury, you may only have $500 to spend after years of saving and an outlet bag can bring years of happiness. Just another perspective! I also have had 1 or 2 good experiences, a Bottega snap bag and a Prada micro cahier in ostrich that's stunning but few and far between! Just know what you're buying so you can feel good about how you're spending your money💜

Oh yeah, when I found out I was blown away. I know someone, and they told me their production essentially consist of two main groups. That being regular stuff and outlet items, crazy.

I worked for a store that did have an outlet which sold older merchandise. Said merchandise was usually so ugly that it felt like a crime selling it. I mean, this was the stuff we couldn't even sell for 70% off.

I figured out that Coach does this a few months ago. A lot of the stuff sold at their outlets were never for sale at their main store. However, I’m a bit basic and I tend to like the outlet stuff more.

There’s a reason why they have them overseas. It’s actually illegal in the US for them not to have it openly on the tag that it’s made for an outlet or if it’s true stock.

I think this vary per country, like in the US, kate spade/coach got separate products for retail and outlet, but if you go to outlets in Japan, retail products are also sold in outlets, you're assured that they aren't inferior materials coz the Japanese are very strict in authenticity

Designers have been making lower quality shoes for Nordstrom Rack for decades. A friend of mine and me figured this out and asked a sales person and she confirmed. It's deceitful and caused me lose all respect for the designers who were peddling such lies to us, making buyers think they got a deal when they didn't.

Yup I work in a conglomerate and it's either second quality or samples that never made it to production

So I bought a bag from Gucci in a bright colour, I sat on it for a couple years. When I tried to sell it on the resale companies kept telling me it was a fake. If I had not gone to the store myself and paid for it myself, I would have taken the resellers word that it is fake but of course it is not.

That's what you get when your trying to impress with labels.

It's true what he says. I use to shop at outlets when you could purchase last years products that didn't sell and they need to make room for the new ones. That was like 30 years ago. Then I noticed about 20 years ago that these stores started making merchandise just for their outlet stores and they were definitely made with much cheaper products.

“Very simple designs” don’t apply for all brands, though. Prada and Furla outlet items are aesthetically very similar cuz the boutiqurle items are already very simple. I have 2 Prada outlet bags, still from their strong tessuto nylon + saffiano. Prettier designs vs their smaller, simple re-edition baguette bags that are way way more expensive. Coach outlet bags are also good quality leather, just different hardwear, and no lazy designs. But Tory Burch and Gucci outlet stuff tho…They just make the most generic bags and slap on some logo buckle.
