Tiny House Giant Journey

Tiny House Giant Journey

Күн бұрын

Steve and Nancy, along with their family and friends, designed and built one of the most creative container homes in the world! Using four containers total, they have two standing vertically to create the stairwell, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. Then the final two containers which house the kitchen, living room, and hot tub area (yes, you read that correctly) are horizontally cantilevered out & supported by a tree! To top it all off, they created a two-story rooftop deck.
This container home is a labor of love and the brainchild of a father/son engineering team. The family uses the home as a vacation getaway and as an Airbnb (so you can rent it)! Booking info is below.

Agreed. In this social media age, it feels harder and harder to find people who are in touch with just being human, and understanding the humanity in others. We're all so caught up in hating one another for our every difference that we lose sight of what's more important than taking sides─that we're ultimately all in this together. And if we don't start acting like it, well, what's going on in Europe with Russia and Ukraine is a prime example. Power, money, ego.. all comparatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

@jcpt928
@jcpt928 2 жыл бұрын
I grew up in a large family (read "more than 7 people), with only one bathroom - it was hectic sometimes; but, it was definitely "sufficient". If you're not more than 3 or 5 people (including the kids), I would not consider having more than one bathroom a "necessity". "Potty facilities on each level..." sounds like you need to teach your family some exercise ethic, as well as tone down the "spoiling".

Wow. I can't use certain descriptive words, how ever I'm sure many can figure out my thoughts on the spectacular place. It's absolutely add word cool. I love the name to. AIR CASTLE. Definitely fits this unit. It's also very artistic as well. Well thought process. The space in each room is comfy and you dint feel crammed or cramped. Can you imagine watching the perseids meteor shower in August, or any other meteor shower staying at this place. I bet it's just gorgeous. Due to the size I you have kids parents cam escape them when the need time away, but still can hear them. Lol we all know many parents need atleast 30 minute time out from teenagers and preteens. Lol what a beautiful place to bring a family friends or just by yourself or a couple on a honeymoon. Out in the woods away from every one and noise, if you live in the city or nosey town. THE PLACE LOOKS SO PEACEFUL. TO SIT ON TOP SIDE DECK OR THE CROWS NEST AND WATCH THE SUN RISE AND SUN SET MUST BE SPECTACULAR AND AGAIN PEACEFUL. For those who are scared of heights like myself just don't look down. Scared or not I would enjoy the tranquil that this place offers. I also would leave some money for fireman fund. That is super important. If we don't have firemen, women and equipment many would lose homes businesses, kitty cats, birds, wild life,( I watched a show called lone star law. All about fish and game. They had a fire department help a red tail hawk a baby. It was put back in the nest) any way we need the fire department as well as the EMTs. Thank you for sharing this lovely place. I really want to visit this place.

This is extremely cool and unique! That said, I wish people would stop glorifying shipping containers. For those who don’t know better they could waste a ton of money trying to copy what they see… From an economical and engineering view they don’t save you anything or have any real benefits over standard construction and in most cases standard construction is easier and more efficient. One you cut into a container you ruin the structural integrity, meaning you have to frame it anyway, then you have to add support and flooring and insulation and then line it which shrinks the living space a ton.. by the time you do all of that you just bought a container to act as the siding and roof material, which is super inefficient for temperature and energy saving. If you’re cutting massive holes for doors and windows, welding them together, framing the whole thing for structural integrity and drywall… just start with a basic frame then! It saves time and money, it gives you more options and versatility and the final product will be more energy efficient and easier to build. But then you’d lose the hipster style I guess. Shipping containers like many things have lost the original intent. The idea of living in containers wasn’t mean for everyone who wanted a tiny home, it was supposed to be an idea to help people who had thousands of containers sitting around and very limited building materials. It was meant to solve an actual issue in 3rd world countries where a container home actually makes sense and provides a decent base for people who can’t afford normal construction costs. In the west and in more affluent countries we aren’t using free and salvaged containers, people are buying them and most of the time you HAVE to buy NEW because the law prohibits selling most containers used, because you have no way of knowing what chemicals, animals, or whatever else was potentially shipped in them. The cost of buying containers is basically the same as just building from scratch anyway and just using normal efficient siding. I’m not saying I hate containers or that they have no use, it’s just that people always have to take a fad or idea way too far. Stuff like this is cool, but he said there was no way to build it without containers which just isn’t true. It was probably more difficult using containers because you have a built in constraints and limitations. This is cool, I just think the containers were unnecessary.

I have built a few structures from sea containers including multi-story but this home is on another level (pun intended) Thanks for showing us your beautiful project. Grandkids will need a zip line. 😀

WOW, they do do it BIG in Texas. But would thought it would have a least one more bedroom. That hot tub is something else. Wild imagination to build this. Love being in nature, and this is it. Great job Dude...👍
