I'm a HK girl. I think people coming from China to shop are potentially interested in those aspirational brands. Among HK people, most of them travel to Europe to buy more under the radar things, or remember HK is a free port, so we don't get charged import duties when we order in. I do think HK has this interesting aspect of so many people wearing a lot of luxury that you actually get tired of seeing things like Chanel classic flap handbags. I have people come and approach me about my Joseph Duclos Diane messenger bag. There is a HK style you probably saw a lot in Central in that people like to be quite polished, matching, and neutral but everyone loves their diamonds and crystals! It's actually quite conservative in the financial sector in HK (aka a big employer of professionals) and Roger Vivier is part of the unofficial professional uniform! It's quite different to a lot of people in Europe who might want something more slouchy, more differentiation from others or some people want to be more relaxed. To illustrate the point- I think the Diane would be very popular in HK, but I don't think the St Clair would take off to the same extent. It would be seen as too relaxed. I'm sorry you got a bit of HK customer service with the skincare. It's quite normal to be told you have some kind of issue. I remember being told I had a big and oily nose! I think they use it to make you panic and buy something, but obviously it doesn't translate well across cultures! Nor does the TST hard sell! For tailoring for women, I've heard good things about Frey and JSMP.

Yes the people from China were definitely coming for the aspirational brands and they couldn’t get enough! Diamonds are a girl’s best friend after all it will be interesting to hear their take on lab grown diamonds. Unofficial professional uniform 🤦🏾‍♀️ I definitely think Joseph Duclos would be popular if they knew about it. How did you discover the brand? I heard about JSMP but it was too late good to hear someone else mention it!

@@SoAnesu I’m racking my brain about how I first heard of JD. I remember finding their webpage and searching for reviews a couple of years ago when they were first starting and there was very little. I found a purse forum thread and there is a HK-based social media person Bag Hag who wrote about them. But I think I found them via searches for Romesh Nair because I was already a Moynat customer. Even Moynat and Delvaux are somewhat well known in HK, so I was looking for something else. It was really either that or Hèrmes. I have H watches and scarves, but I didn’t want to get into the whole bag thing with them. Firstly I’ve never had particularly good customer service from them (unlike with my old Moynat SA) and second because it all just seemed a bit overdone. unfortunately with the lab grown diamonds I think that people would see them as not “real” and therefore not as valuable. In Hong Kong we tend to lag behind when it comes to tolerating suffering for our products. We only recently banned the domestic ivory trade, for example, and still have a thriving exotic pet trade and use of wildlife in food and traditional medicines. I do have hope that the generations coming up are more interested in sustainability and ethical consumption! I also see the younger people being more expressive and individual in their fashion choices, so perhaps the conservative “professional uniforms” will be consigned to history! I am western and old enough to have earned the right to do my own thing, so have a little bit more leeway in making off center fashion choices. I love a bit of Brunello Cucinelli, but cannot commit to a 50+ shades of beige look every day.

My husband has had suits and jackets made by Ying Tai in Hong Kong and they are very nicely fftted and made. It is fully made-to-order with many measurements taken; I believe they are now owned by Ascot Chang.

How rude you were told you had horrible wrinkles. Your skin is lovely and glowing. I can’t see a single wrinkle. Sounds like the perfect way not to sell that particular product. Thank you for all your detailed information.

I was in Hong Kong in November last year. What was meant to be a 1-day in-and-out trip turned into 5 days! I know the Roger Vivier store you’re talking about. I also wondered why the shop is so big! I think it wraps around the corner if I remember correctly. I wasn’t too familiar brand at the time but I figured it’s probably one of those ‘quiet luxury’ brands. I fell in love with HK, it looked so slow-paced and laid back. I found the people very private and polite, more keeping to themselves and just generally polite. Right now I’m considering a move to HK for about 5 years or so. The luxury shopping there is unmatched! For a population of about 7 million people, there are so many luxury shops it was unbelievable. Unbelievable you received such shocking attitudes from even the owner even. I always say it’s more to do with that person than it is about you. In that situation I always psychoanalyse a person: 🤔 what’s going on in your life?! Why would you treat a total stranger like this? What’s happening in YOUR life?! Great content as always.

Yes it wraps around the corner. Please do it you will have a blast maybe even consider a stint in Singapore as well? It’s a little stiff and super orderly but enjoyable nonetheless. You are giving too much credit sometimes people are just nasty. They judge and make assumptions that couldn’t be further from the truth! The power is your hands not rising to the bait.

Hello, I have always admired the beautiful signet rings that classic women often wear. I would like to purchase one myself. Would you perhaps consider doing a video on the different styles available and some quality brands I could feel confident buying from. Thank you. I admire you so much, Catherine.

This vlog makes me want to go back to HK. I have not been since the pandemic. I usually stay in Pacific Place, but will definitely broaden my foot print. I am of African descent and I have been using the Sulwashoo night mask with very good results. ❤❤So sorry to hear of those interpersonal snafus. Unfortunately Kowloon area shop keepers seem to have embedded certain stereotypes about the bonafides of Black shoppers. I can't wait for your Singapore vlog. I find folks in SG tend to exercise a bit more savoir faire. You' ve made my morning, cheers.❤

Hong Kong was fun I would go back in a heartbeat and I’m a little wiser for it! Let me manifest a brand trip! Thank you for the Kowloon warning! Good to know I’ll definitely buy the Sulwahsoo night mask when next I’m back in Asia. Singapore was awesome I’m only going to talk about my stay at Raffles - brace yourself Smaddi!

I feel as if you just saved me a lot of jet lag and even more, gave me a better idea of the where to go and the why. I look forward to going to Singapore, but my dream of getting something tailored in Hong Kong will have to wait until you either find someone or I defer to Saville Row for my tailored piece. As for the skincare brand associate that was horribly RUDE, please dismiss everything she said about your skin. Your skin has a wonderful glow and sheen that I noticed from the very first time I cam across your incredible content. Asia doesn't always have the best interactions with others who are not Asian themselves or do not appear to be 'worth" what they want to spend time to try and get. Shame, but thankfully that isn't everyone. Sorry about your distasteful interactions. I hope you will continue to explore the region and find your pearl!

The jet lag is a nightmare especially when adjusting backwards. This last trip made me realise there are cross cultural and generational differences that need to be highlighted but it’s still a beautiful region I look forward to exploring further.

I really enjoyed watching this video as you touched on many interesting topics related to the culture in these locations, thanks for taking us along! Will be exciting to hear your latest thoughts on Moynat... an obvious tear in the bag? 😱 It was also fun to get some snippets from your life, like you had tailor-made clothing when you were young. As for the skincare shopping experience... I am in my mid-40s and although I look younger than my age, it can still be quite a jolt when I speak with anyone that sells skincare. Some of are very diplomatic and some have lots to learn! I see very few wrinkles on the screen when I watch you. If you are looking for great skincare, I recently discovered Sisley Paris and have seen immediate effects in hydration and plumping. I never thought I would pay this much and it does pain me but most of the products have fantastic reviews. I was told that this company is a passion project of someone who does extreme research to prove out results and makes the products highly concentrated. Try the Hydra Global serum for hydration - I also have dry skin and nothing seemed to work until this one. The company is pretty good about giving out samples as well.

Hey Abby Skincare people are brutal! They are not for the faint hearted. Next time I’m in Paris I’ll try and go to Sisley’s flagship store if there is such. Makes me sad what’s happening with MOYNAT but that’s life…

@@SoAnesu I was just sharing the skincare brand with you for your personal reference but would be amazing if you could get to a flagship type of store and get an in-depth background! The brand rep at the department store counter that I spoke with was more knowledgable than most, and spent quite a lot of time with me, but would love to hear more straight from the horse's mouth ❤
