Some schools justify the high cost of building stunning amenities to attract and retain students.

Everyone is so offended but let's be real. The top 5 reasons to chose a school. 1) Your major is available and is actually a good program. 2) Tuition rates 3) student to teacher ratio 4) distance from home 5) comfort and free time Personally I hated living in a dorm room where I had half a closet and my roommate drank a lot and had a lot of one night stands. Its uncomfortable and annoying to live with a stranger or even your friend for a year in a small room. Not to mention if you don't get along with them. When I switched rooms to a suite where I had 4 other roommate and we each had our own room my grades went up because I could study in my own room in silence and I slept better, I was no longer worried about strange men in my room at odd hours or her turning lights on at 4am. I had space for myself and my things without stashing everything all under my bed because there is no room for anything other than the bare minimum. Also anyone who actually went to a 4 year university knows that if all you do is study then you will go insane, it is important for your mental health to have fun and have amenities available to you for free because another truth, college kids are broke as f*ck. I don't have the money to pay for a gym membership, so the fact that my college offered free use of a swimming pool, rock climbing wall, fully equipped gym, game room, along with other fun and stimulating things to do made my mental and physical heath easier to maintain. I agree that the millions of dollars they receive yearly should be put to use on libraries and quality profs, or other useful and necessary things but as far as I know. My $105,000 tuition is being thrown into the wind. College is insanely expensive so if I am paying 7,000 per semester for a housing plan then you better bet your buns I want my own bedroom and bathroom. I know everyone on here who is saying that is unrealistic would have a bitch fit if they were told they had to share one bedroom with a stranger and a communal bathroom for the entire floor and pay $1,400 a month to live there. So no, I don't think this is crazy. I work very hard to pay for my own tuition, I work very hard in school to have a 3.8 GPA. I deserve to be housed like a human and have fun on my free time. If college is seen as necessary for success, then giving the people who are willing to pay for it a decent living environment should be seen as a necessity not as a way to shame them.

HollyAnne I hate the fact that everyone thinks your not suppose to have fun or live comfortable at college. When you in high school you have fun. That’s like me telling you your not suppose to love your job you just need to go and make money.

Is this setting up students for success? Will they be prepared for the real world?

Good questions. Some follow-up research for the students who graduated from these schools would be interesting.

Only good colleges get this. That means that the students will be rich and have good jobs. That means. So that is the real world for them.
@TheMAMAB123

So you think ALL students will graduate with 6-six figure incomes handed to them? Hmmm, I'll give you (possibly) more than half of the graduates, but not all students. It doesn't matter how "good" the school is. There are Harvard grads without jobs. Some students will graduate with a harsh reality check. That's all I'm saying GamerPotatoGuy.

This is why the idea of student loan forgiveness is absurd. It's completely unfair to the people who make reasonable choices because in the end everyone will get stuck paying for bad student loan decisions through inflation caused by wiping out other people's debt. Don't know anyone that went to a school with a lazy river but I don know someone who's family member cries about needing student loan forgiveness who went to a pricey school, lived in a single in the highest price dorm on that campus and did a year studying abroad while going for a music degree that they never actually finished. In the meantime, if you actually live reasonably and save for college you will be penalized at many schools when it comes time to do the aid package.

This student housing is way too luxurious but in many other countries it’s normal for students to have their own room. The dorm rooms can be tiny, non-air-conditioned, etc. but its one person per room. Americans seem to view it as an essential experience to share a room with a stranger who might come in late, get very drunk and have sex. Elsewhere that just sounds inhumane and not conducive to studying.

I'd rather pay 10 to 20 grand a year instead of 40 grand a year and relieve the backbreaking debt load instead of this fufu crap.

If you can afford to go here, it doesn't matter if you fail. Your parents will be your bank for the rest of your life, so there is no such thing as being prepared for the real world. Most of these people live in luxury in the first place.

Do schools like Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia, etc. do this? It isn't just some lala land for those students of schools that make the top ranking. This college in the video is just some expensive play place for adults.

I honeslt dont care nor see the issue. If a university can afford this then by all means do it. Hell I wish EVERY college and university could afford to upgrade their housing. I don't understand why people think students should shell out thousands of dollars to live in shabby dorms or apartments. As if living in a luxurious setting is gonna affect your intelligence one way or the other.
