Hey guys! What do you think about this box and the Items inside? I feel like the items they select are WAY overpriced for what they are. I dont know if they specifically select items from brands that have a high value but also a super big profit margin so that they can inflate the value of their boxes while also not having to spend a lot on its contents or what gong on but you CAN NOT convince me that backpack is worth anywhere near that price! What do you guys think? Love ya!

It's an LLC called Retention Brands Alltrue. They're the company that just bought Birchbox as well. The company didn't exist two months before the Alltrue crap happened last year. One of Retention Brands' partners, Chris Davis, used to be the CEO of Loot Crate. And the sole employee of Retention Brands, Ryan Hibbard, was the vice president of finance and strategy at Loot Crate (a geek and fandom-inspired subscription box service) until 2018. A year later, Loot Crate went bankrupt. Another company started by Hibbard after he left Loot Crate, Bud Crate, was suspended by California’s Franchise Tax Board for not paying taxes, according to the state’s Secretary of State database.

If the backpack is genuinely sustainably made and the people who made it were paid ethically I dont think the price is unreasonable. That being said tho companies lie all the time about things being ethically and sustainably made and it can be very difficult to verify those claims so might be over priced

I think people are so conditioned to poor quality slave labour garments and accessories and the associated prices . I was looking at ethical socks and they're about 10e a pair. But I guarantee if people who could afford them bought them they'd treat them a lot better. Organic cotton isn't cheap and I'd rather pay 100e for a bag I'd it was ethically made

And it goes so much further back! When it was causebox they screwed so many people over, took money with no refund then took 3-6 months to send the box, with no communication, multiple times I hear, then rebranded as all true. Likely also so they wouldn’t have the brand tied to philanthropy and and good causes anymore and could focus on profit and screwing people over.

If the cutting board are made ethically, and the artisans are paid enough, accounting for ethical gathering of materials, and transport of goods from india, that cost is not that high. TJ maxx products have such low prices, there is no way those people are being paid a livable wage.

same thing with the bag. If someone took 4 hours to make that (pattern drafting, cleaning the material, cutting out the pieces, stitching, finishing, adding the hardware) at $15/hr (minimum wage in my state) that's $60 in wages plus ~$10 for ethically sources materials leaves only $28 profit (which also covers the value of the expertise of the crafter) Whilst I totally understand the whole "this doesn't look expensive"/"I could find this for cheaper" argument, fast fashion has truly desensitized people to how expensive fair-wage work actually is

@@jleighwolfe Many folks have strong reactions to mineral spirits or the ingestion of mineral spirit oil. Olive and Chestnut oils have been used on hardwood boards for hundreds of years in Germany. Which is where I was a carpentry and woodworking apprentice for years before moving to the states. And yes I have a military American father and a German father. So I hold dual U.S. and German Citizenship. Perhaps you could research traditional wood treatments used by early and current Europeans. You might discover some interesting info and perhaps other ways of successful wood preservation methods. I absolutely agree about beeswax as is it a great sealant and can keep wood water resistant as well as preserved. However I have discovered many with honey or pollen sensitivities actual have a small chance at having an allergic reaction up to anaphylactic shock. Which I find too risky. Even listing that on my website with a warning ⚠️ is not always helpful to buyers. As we all know some folks just overlook warnings. Anyhow thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's much appreciated. Have a wonderful day my friend.

If the items are truly coming from a production center that pays a living wage and uses all sustainable materials and people-conscious production methods and standards, those actually are appropriate prices. The problem is, a lot of places slap together a fancy description and use words like "ethically" on things because they paid for a certification from some company that doesn't do inspections, and it still has all the same problems. It is important to truly check out what makes something certified--if their certification standard doesn't include third party, on-site audits, they're just using the terms to rake in more money. Truly ethically made things can't be sold at TJ Max prices, but given Alltrue's history, I'm not sure they're any better.

It looks super pricey and greenwashed type deal (not sure if they are, just overpriced bad vibes overall.). Laude the Label isn't new. They used to be Tribe Alive, but rebranded like a year or so ago, which is maybe why you aren't familiar with the name. I think their products seem a bit more plain now than before they rebranded, but if you read about them, it seems like they're legit ethical. They include info about where they source their materials, what they pay their employees, working conditions, etc on their website. Seems about as legit as an ethical brand can be. Not that I'm going to buy a $200 plain linen dress lol, but the brand ethics deserve some respect!

Generally, a wholesale price is about twice the cost to make a product, so on that cutting board, it probably cost about $15 in time and materials to make and then everyone else gets their cut (wholesaler, freight, customs, etc) to get to the final retail price of $60+, which is not necessarily the actual sale price. It's also why stores can discount so much and still make a little profit.

Maybe this box is getting better. I think this was a pretty good box, especially considering you couldn't choose the items. Maybe if they continue getting better you can do the yearly subscription. Also, I would totally use a cricket on the backpack

First of all, YESSSSS GIRL for that sweat shirt!! U of K is THE best😁❤😁❤ second, I think a deep dive would be awesome! You are so good at these unboxings! You ask the relevant questions, you don't show bias, you expect honest value for your hard earned money and you let us know when you believe it's not, or if it's potential scam stuff. Third, I'm keeping you and your fur babies in my prayers!❤🙏🐕🐕❤🙏

If- and it’s a big IF- those are handmade and fair trade, the prices are pretty accurate. Big retailers that have “handmade” goods are either lying or they’re definitely exploiting labor. I used to work at Magnolia Market and they sold “ethically sourced fair trade” bags from overseas but when the owners of the company came to meet us and talk to us about their brand, they REFUSED to tell us how much their workers were making. I don’t trust any brand who isn’t transparent.

I purchased a hand made acacia cutting board that is at least twice as thick - it’s truly a block and significantly larger size for around $70 so they are highly inflated the value of that one.

This may be controversial, but I’m gonna share it anyway. I am a crystal person. I collect a lot of crystals and stones of different shapes and sizes. I’ve received a lot of face rollers and facial stones that I don’t use. Since most of them are made out of crystals and stones, I’ll put them in a plastic bag and gently smash them into smaller pieces with a mallet. I then put them into jars to display, add them to candles or sprinkle them around a potted plant, etc. It’s just a nice way to utilize the stones if you don’t want to use them on your face. It just seems like a waste of pretty crystals. It’s also a great way to find out if it’s actually a real stone or not because some brands say they’re real, and they’re just glass or plastic! Lol

You can spray with Pam cooking spray the plastic bowls inside before putting your pasta in for storage or on the go ready for work lunch etc . To keep it from staining when reheating... this works on Tupperware items... hoping your sweet boys are doing better - things will work out for your lovely family on finding a forever home ... Blessings to one Kentucky girl from another Kentucky girl 📦 ❤ 📦 🏘 ❤ 💳 🚛 📦

Loved the video .... that said ... wanted to share a quick hack -actually if you spray bleach on plastic food storage containers, and let it set for a few minutes ... it removes both smells and stains

Soak it in bleach water then wash like normal & no more red stains. Seems like a bit of cheap stuff so the prices always shock me. You know they're lying. Great video❤ I always know what not to get. Those jade rollers, you can get them at Dollar Tree too 😮. These people are really lying!

My dog was watching you so intently because every time your dog moved, she would jump off the chair and look behind the TV lol I can't believe the prices they believe these things are worth. I would love to see a deep dive. So my darling girl Charley (mix French bulldog/boston) says hello to the pups.❤

For that backpack I would dye it, then get some wax from Barbour and wax it to make it stain and water resistant.

I feel like "handmade" doesn't equate to "not made in a sweatshop". It just means a person had to be physically involved in putting it together. I especially feel this way about products made in places that are known for their extremely cheap, mass manufacturing industries. And for a sketchy company like this? Yeah... the doubts are pretty big.

I'm so glad you get some good stuff from your boxes. I have never had any luck with any type of subscription or mystery box. I seem to only get junk that I have absolutely no interest in or stuff that doesn't work for me at all. I enjoy living vicariously through you!
