Жыл бұрын

I am filming a crinoid fossil today at the edge of Mike’s pond. The crinoid is an animal related to the starfish. Mike has some more superb fossil finds too, which I film. Mike is a Professional fossil collector in the Winter months, along the Jurassic Coast. You really need to know what you are looking for when you're out fossil hunting . I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs, the best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassic Coast.#fossilhunter#fossilhunting#ammonites

That’s incredible how Mike just found it laying there and only had to prep it for 10-45 mins with a toothbrush! Amazing finds! Keep up the good work!

Thanks 🙏 very much for your comments. Luckily along the Jurassic Coast the sea does the work for you washing the fossils out of the mudslides and onto the beaches. Looking for the fossils at low tide is fun and not as much work as you sound like you have to do !

Thanks 🙏 very much for your comments. I’m glad the sieving got you a few finds. I think the sieving at the seaside goes well with all that sea water to show up the fossils with.

I learned today that ammonites can become pyrite, so no wonder they look like metal. They are. Those pyrite ammonites would make nice jewelry.

You know we can buy fossils. But it is not the same as finding them. I have a seriously amazing collection of gems and fossils that I found around the world. But most of my collection was purchased. I have found opals and other precious gems. Collected obsidian from several sites. Found sharks teeth and pieces of tusk and a partail mammoth tooth. But the claws and raptor as well as other toothy creatures i purchased. All the Ammonite i purchased. I have found clams and have a ton of petrified wood. All the opal fossils I did purchase. Anyway I could go on and on. I am after a pyrite ammonite and a Indonesian black tree limb opal. And those are going to complete what I want in my collection. I show this collection at schools they all love trilobites btw and my massive megalodon tooth that is well over 6 inches and all there. I would love to walk down another foreign beach and find fossils.. I found a couple of interesting fossils in New Zealand but was not allowed to keave the country with them. I believe they have now changed that law. I found petrified wood in Thailand and the funniest thing happened. When I returned stateside they wouldn't release them from customs. Apparently all wood has to go through quarantine. Then whomever was in charge had them released and explained to the custom agent that petrified wood is a rock and is okay to bring in. Haha! That was a rather nutty 17 hours. Someone sell me a pyrite ammonite thank you? Please? Oh okay.. i will find one someday.

Thanks 🙏 sounds like you have made a really great assortment of discoveries over time. It’s so much fun 🤩 fossil hunting and discovering finds. We have to wait until low tide to get our finds here along the Jurassic Coast. We are always hoping for another good discovery at low tide 🙌
