So I've started on a different part of the layout and take you through the beginning of what will be the Castle Hill and Castle Halt station. There are some suggestions I would like from you all as to the Castle Halt area and look forward to your responses. PLease like and subscribe if you already haven't, and if there is anything you don't like please let me know so I can answer them rather than just hit the dislike button.

Good to see the work around the castle and its halt. It's all looking very good. Castle Halt is reminiscent of Dunrobin station which sits just below Dunrobin Castle (which is open to the public but still lived in by the family) on the Far North Line. It was built as a private station for the Duke of Sutherland and has a siding where he kept his personal coach. I agree about you needing another building but I am not sure about it being a house. You could have the Castle as still lived in by the family and the station master would be a retainer and live in the castle. I wonder if the Metcalf Village Shop and Cafe kit (PN154) might go in that space (although it may be bigger than you want). You could have the shop as gift shop. On spotlights, Viesmann make some N scale low spotlights (model number 6530). I nearly used them for the War Memorial before I found spotlights I could hide in the bushes. I wouldn't worry about the gap between the coaches and the platform. All our curves are much sharper than in real life especially on platforms. The whole scene is going to look good when you have it finished. Stephen

Thanks Stephen, as always a mine of information! I saw a similar set up where I think was at Blair Castle when we were caravanning up near there. I will have a look at the Viesmann spot lights, but was thinking f making my own with coloured LED's and some fittings. I agree a house would be too big so might go for a tea shed or similar. Regards Steve

Hi Steve, the castle section is coming along nicely and the halt is very well integrated, for the space on that hill you could turn it into a kind of car park possibly with a bacon butty van or something like that, serving customers of the railway and the castle. I myself am going to have a castle on my layout but I’m nowhere near it yet so I might use yours for some inspiration when I get round to it. Happy modelling, Nat 🚂

Cheers Nat - I actually have an Ice Cream Van which i was wondering where to place on the layout so will use your idea and have it up by the castle with perhaps a small shop selling teas and cakes! Appreciate your input. Regards Steve

Hello Steve, that is looking great, And everyone loves a castle. Nice to see the Castle Gate House - I don't have that part, but then again I don't have any space for it :), Keep up the good work. Karl and Debbie.

Hi Steve of the valleys 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, the castle and halt are coming along well, it will look mighty impressive when it’s all finished!! I like how the trains run around it through the stone cutting! My only one comment is to remove those two flags 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 from the turrets and replace with some 🇬🇧ones 😮😉🤣😂cheers Gary

That's looking good, Steve. I'm looking forward to seeing that area develop, we have a castle on Dylington. But unfortunately do to a house move it's not been reinstated yet, it will do eventually once we've worked out how to refit it onto the end of the layout (a space issue)......cheers James 🙂👍

Good morning Steve, I wouldn’t put a house by the station you need a parking for it and the castle visitors apart from that it is looking good cheers Al

Cheers Sion - the servicing was quite easy - Undo the four small screws under neath and lift off the plastic, then carefully remove the wheels and clean - just have a good set of small tweezers to line up the flanges when putting back in (that was the pain mind you). Regards Steve

Hi Steve! As always, you've made some really quick and impressive progress! Love the little cutting you made and it looks really nice once its been painted! The trains certainly looked good travelling through / around it! Spotlights will look fantastic if you can get them positioned around the castle! Not sure a house is the right thing for that area behind the station! I'd be tempted, like others have said, to have a small refreshments area, maybe a burger van, or tea room, with seating area, picnic tables, umbrellas, that sort of thing! The only question I've got is where does the road go? I know to the castle, but does it end at the station? Or is it just there for the visitors to get from the station to the castle? Anyway, great progress as usual mate! All the best, Ian.

Hi Ian - yes I am concerned about the road and its back story so will have to have a think about that - I have some ideas but need time to ponder over a few brews! Regards Steve

Great progress as always steve, keep up the good work, beer festival or a classic car meet scene just outside the station building in a car park? - Mark

Thanks Mark - I think I've decided to have a small picnic area there but I do like the idea of a classic car meet - I'm planning a campsite scene on the other side so may just include that over there. Regards Steve

Hi Steve i like your thoughts on the castle area. Could you put a battery box with a switch in side the castle and bring the wires out under the wall so when you lift the castle of on the board everything goes together. The trains look great running round the castle. Have a good week. Colin
