Actually his bow technique is spot on. He is know as the master of technique. When you see his bow moving up and down like that it is because he is trying to achieve a different color. It is a common technique to move the bow up over the fingerboard when softer or wanting a more washed out sound. It is also the same when going closer to the bridge, namely, a louder more intense sound. Try it out! But keep to the 90 degree same position if you haven't mastered that yet.

@laiZazn Lynn Harrell is not only a professional, but a world-known cello soloist!! He was picked as a principal cello of the Cleveland symphony orchestra by George Szell, and after that he teached cello at the Royal Academy of music. I think there is very little advice you can give him.

Could anyone please post anymore of Mr. Harrell's vids?? can't seem to find them anywhere. His Shostakovich Concerto, Schelemo, and Arpeggione is the BEST. And this is coming from someone who studied with Starker many years ago.
