This is a great song and yes it was inspired by Gary's car accident when he hit a tree. The original lead singer of the band is Ronnie not Robbie. Whoever wants to say Johnny is trying to make money off of his dead brother, that is so not true. Johnny wasn't so sure about joining the band and he talked to his parents and a few people from the band about it. Don't believe me, look up Behind the music of this band.

@bluemooncollision6 жыл бұрын
Steve Gaines parts seem straight forward, but his feel, phrasing, and tone were the best. I have been obsessing over his solos in this song. His first solo in the song around 54 seconds in the studio recording is the hardest to nail in the beginning section. The pull off section in the first solo is reasonable to play as is the second solo he takes around 2:21
@johndeer95023 жыл бұрын
They will never be a better trio of guitar players then Gary ,Steve gaines and allen collins was.ed king was a great guitarists for skynyrd in there early years
@scottydog622 жыл бұрын
@@bluemooncollision There isn't too many videos out there with Steve Gaines playing live, but Steve didn't even nail his own parts as in the recording very well in my opinion ... So Hughie and Ed King when he rejoined the band did a pretty good tribute, in their own styles of course.
@bluemooncollision2 жыл бұрын
@@scottydog62 I would agree with you on him not being 100% from the live stuff I have heard. He was ultimately just on another level than anyone in this band as a musician. His vocals on some of his original songs and his solos really standout. I don't mean to knock the other guys, but they had to try to fill his shoes which is impossible. It is a good tribute nonetheless.

its all about TONE and Skynyrd's is unmistakeable. The tones of their guitars are such quality and their riffs are classic. They said Freebird's solo started at 2 minutes originally, grew to 4, blossomed to 8 and maxed at 20. First heard them as a sophomore in high school in 1977 and loved them immediately. They already had Freebird and nearly every record company rejected them. DOUGH!!!!!!
