This pin had so many frustrating problems, it's amazing how far it's come. "The Whiners" were Joe Piscopo and Robin Duke, it was during the time in the early 80s when Dick Ebersol was running the show.

This is the first pin I EVER played in my bowling alley when I was 10yrs old! Just some things about the rules which I still remember which could help you. The drops don't reset when all down, but doing that lights double bonus. And special lights at 10 000 bonus on the tree, but goes off at 11 000. Then it stays on if you get to 15 000 to the end of the ball.

I, 100%, agree with all of Ron's comments in this fine video and another excellent series on how to methodically go through a system to diagnose the problems and verify proper operation. You know, I think the Lyons brothers could author their own Pinball machine. Call it "Whiners." Make it a really cool game but make the art work such that is always negative in connotation. And, instead of really nice bells (chimes) or like sound effects...have the sound effects all some form of whining. Hit a target...it "boos" you...hit another "why did you do that?" If you go into the out hole "you suck!" That sort of thing. Have fun with it. I could get into a machine like that. Another rule of thumb Joe...small points = small bells (back when they were the old(er) style bells)...which means higher pitch for small points.

I was watching another creator a couple months ago, he was struggling repairing something, and he started to go off on the parts he got, and the designers of the machine, and so on.... At about that point he says "I'm just saying whats on my mind now, so... If anybody is still watching this, which I know nobody is, I don't know why you're watching, because this is a disaster...." I got quite a laugh out of that.... And your thing reminded me of that....

Takes a bit of fun out of the diagnosis but if the pin doesn’t have the instructions card and you are going to replace it, print it out before troubleshooting. Saves trying to figure it out on the schematics. Love your work Ron. I wish some of my old electronics teachers taught some of the common sense approach you use.

You always have great interesting pinball repairs. I'm like a kid in a candy store when watching you. You just have to happy and have fun doing this. I always do that as well even at work answering calls. Not as fun speaking with other tech about getting something repaired. Yeah I just joined them this past Monday with da goat. Lol

@@LyonsArcade thank you for showing us the ins and outside on how to troubleshoot things like this. It's always interesting to see from one project to another that you go through. The different ways of fixing them or the methodology of starting like from where the power goes into the back of the unit. (Let's follow the cord on this fun excursion of this machine.) I had one question here just to get your opinion on this. Have you ran into any issues on the early versions of pinball and video games to the more recent. Seeing sometimes how bad the wiring really gets. Knowing that it might need a whole new wiring job on a particular pinball or video game. From stem to stern (no pun intended on the video game manufacturer.) Thinking mentally like holy snicker doodles batman what have I gotten myself into this time for this client. And yes I'm dating myself here lol. 🤓 I couldn't imagine trying to find the exact same wiring with the exact same color coding schemes wiring would be available at any local electronic store that still sells like transistor, resister, capacitors etc.

Love this! Learned a lot about how some of the playfield stuff works. Been thinking(and kind of trying) to make my own pinball machine based off a Gorgar playfield. Where do people find these old machines anyway? I know at one time you could find nice stuff on Ebay, populated playfields and bulk items, but that seems to have gone now.

Great content, and that was funny...Agree with some of the "oh look, that's like 0.001mm off of the other ones". LOL... Don't argue with the jerks and trolls...they'll beat you with experience every single time...either that or its like wrestling a pig in the mud...pretty soon you'll find out that the pig likes it! Joe classic, the relay disc I'm not familiar with why do they use a relay disc because it seems like a very special made relay that was self proprietary for this game I'm not sure if other pinball games used a relay disc because I'm not sure why they used a really disc instead of using other relays or multiple relays in parallel or in series but they somehow made a very specialized relay disc to do something I'm not sure what the relay disc is doing differently than using a bunch of relays and series or in parallel maybe you could explain why they used to really disc? And what is the relay disc used for like what is its purpose to do what

Is there a reason they made the drops non resetting? Seems kind of like "now what" moment when you're playing. I think spirit of 76 is the same.

Yeah i'm working on a spirit of 76 at the moment... it's because they came up with a 'sequence completed' switch that was on the drops, so once they drop it turns on a feature, they have it designed I guess where the feature stays on if that switch is on and I guess that saves them a relay (they would need a relay to hold on somewhere to keep the feature on if the drops reset)

Great job. Try # 9 drop target for the 10 point extra. Just my idea. Right side 2nd from the 🔝. I don’t know. On your real game play 9 was not down. 7 was. 7,8 and 10 on the double whammy game.
