Notice how he keeps calling her Anya? He wants her to be Anya, not Anastasia. He loves Anya, but he can never let himself love Anastasia

yup. he’s so in love with Anya but his duty tells him to hate Anastasia. He may be the villain in this story but he’s one sad love struck anti-hero.

Ooooooh, I like your rewrite better honestly, it makes it seem like he's saying, demanding even, "Choice? What choice?!" His duty forcing him to kill a girl that's done nothing to him, or else risk being marked a traitor to his country; a country he loves. What sinful duty indeed!

so in the previous song Anya says, "and all I lose is......". I would think she is saying " you" like Dmitri did (because she's talking about Dmitri) BUT is the next word "Gleb" because that's the first word of this song and he could have interrupted her moment to "kill her"????

Can someone please explain this? Is Demetei also Gleb? Is it just an alternate name? I am obsessed with the entire story. The original 90s movie, the actual happenings, and now the musical. I just need an idea.

Megan Bassett No Gleb is an officer who is told at the beginning of the musical that Anya (Anastasia) is saying that she is Anastasia so Gleb tells her she has to stop that his father was the one who helped kill her family (in the song the neva flows) She then continues and goes off the Paris and he realized that she might not be lying and that he also fells a connection to her (explained in the song still) so now he has tracked her down and is saying either she gives up this idea that she’s Anastasia and comes back with him or he will finish his fathers work

I really hope that in the future live action movie, that gleb becomes a potenial love intrest instead of dimitri, Example: gleb is tasked to kill anya in paris after her reunion with her grandmother but he cant do it, anya comforts him, gets to know him and falls in love, "Please gleb! We have both lost our parents and we helped each other ever since," "I will not kill you anya, but i cant return to russia, i failed my mission, failed my country" "But not your humanity, you are good person gleb, you should stay here" "H-here? Why should i?" Anya gently took his hand and squeezed it "Because you can be happy, be normal" There was spark in both in their eyes "Yes, i geus thats for the best" epilogue: anastasia and gleb are married, living in hiding in her grandmothers estate and have 2 kids, anya and alexei
