Today's video is a Lytham town centre walking tour, filmed on a sunny Monday morning in September. Join us as we walk from the windmill end of town, to Clifton Square - especially if you haven't been able to come on a Lytham tour of your own recently!
Lytham town centre runs parallel to the seafront at The Green. Clifton Street is lined in big, mature trees - hence why it's known as 'leafy Lytham'. There are plenty of independent shops in the town, along with cafes, coffee shops, bars and restaurants.
Clifton Square is a nice spot to sit awhile and enjoy the view, among the attractive flower displays planted by the Lytham in Bloom volunteers. We take a little diversion towards the Green to look at the Assembly Rooms, before walking back to Clifton Square. Apologies, the second small garden that our town centre walking tour ends on is of course the Memorial Garden - we've already been to Clifton Square!

I'm an American and spent six months in Lytham in 1990. I loved that town and have very fond memories of the people. Especially enjoyed the hospitality at the Clifton Arms Hotel.

Glad to hear it. People are very friendly around here, I think it's because so many of us move in from elsewhere rather than all being native.

I briefly lived in Lytham St Annes where I got my first job as a computer programmer at Guardian Royal Exchange, I came there from London and this video brings back happy memories. It would have been around 1988 and was only for a few months (I rented in a large house, racking my brains how much my rent was, can't remember but my yearly salary was £4500 if I remember correctly) :) God, how time flies :)

As a shoe shop is an ineluctible force for some, so is a second hand bookshop for the writer of this comment . . . I have never yet found one in this lovely town but I shall keep searching! I always make a bee line for the beautiful Heritage Centre, they have some fascinating exhibitions. The meeting rooms have [or used to have] antique fairs. The floral cobblestone mosaic in Lytham Square is a wonderful example of the art.

Oh we like a good bookshop too! New or second hand - either is fine 👍
@jamessingleton9253
@jamessingleton9253 3 жыл бұрын
No need for second hand book store. There is a virtual library upstairs in Bernardo's Charity shop, as well as well stocked shelves of books of all types in all the other charity shops. Not to mention the independent "new" book shop in the centre of town next to Barnardo's. Great second hand bookshop in St Annes about 3 miles down the coast. Incidentally, some high quality "stuff" in the all the charity shops- not the common "tat".

@@jamessingleton9253 Thanks James, I shall pay a visit to Barnardoes - I have been a frequent patron of the one in Preston. I used to really enjoy the huge bookshop in the middle of Settle - it had a hole in the floor under the carpet that one was advised to avoid! If you are ever in Leyland look out for Great Grandad's Bookshop on Towngate. Thanks again!

Lots of charity shops selling books and shoes in Lytham, St. Annes, Ansdell but not Fairhaven.
@erykfreethinker7147
@erykfreethinker7147 3 жыл бұрын
@@peteroberts3427 Many thanks Pete, sadly except for Oxfam bookshops the normal charity shops sell mainly fiction and coffee table non-fiction, I enjoy the bookshops that sell more of the academic books including philosophy, bookbinding, calligraphy, serious history, architecture, that sort of thing. If there is something I like in the general charity shops I usually have it already but you never know what might be there as house clearance etc. There is a large bookshop on the promenade not too far from the Eric Morecambe statue at Morecambe. The best in this area of the NW [in my opinion] are both the Halewood bookshops on Friargate each run by a brother. The one at the top of the hill has an enormous selection of Sherlock Holmes. Thank you for your reply Pete and all the best for 2021.

Also the kind of shop that sells household things could be called haberdashery, not sure could be wrong, but I do know there was another shop across from there, its not there now, we always went to it when visiting Lytham a few years back, it was called Serendipity and sold things like crystals and pretty ornaments and things for the home, isn't it strange that the shops one loved to go to are not there anymore and have completely changed beyond recognition.

What a fantastic video, thank you! We've just booked for a 1 night stay in Lytham next week (with our 2 young children) so your channel is going to be very useful to allow us to make the best of our stay. We want to take the children to see the illuminations but wanted to stay just outside Blackpool. Looks like we've made a good choice with Lytham! Any recommendations for a restaurant to take an 8 and 5 year old to please? Thanks, Helen

Excellent walk-round. As a Cornishman I loved the Lancs accent which made this vid attractive; ( most walk rounds have an irritating head and even more irritating narration).....but you could read me Lloyd's Shipping Register and I would listen!
