Feynstein 100 a form factor is just a physical spec, shows where and how pins have to be in order for things to fit together and connect physically. An interface has the physical spec and also specifies what is needed to transmit data, like specific pinouts, clock speeds, and stuff

Rusty Rivet Absolute bollox, sata power connectors are the worst thing ever, they are thin and cheap and they brake easily, they should have made a more robust connector for HDD power like a small square block. sata power connectors cannot handle the stress and weight of cables especially if you unplug frequently and move things around a lot. molex power cables are much more sturdy and don't brake.

first of all, check your motherboard's compatibility with the m.2 bandwith. Newer versions of motherboard like z170 and x99 have support to pcie 3.0 x4. Some older versions like 1150 chipset motherboards will only have pcie 2.0 x2 m.2 support. so that means if you buy the top of the line m.2 ssd like samsung 950 pro (that supports pcie 3.0 x4) but you have an old motherboard that only support 2.0 x2 (10 gbit/s) you won't be taking the full advantage and will be having only slightly better performance than a regular sata 3 ssd speed. If you let me know your motherboard, I might be able to help you out finding a good m.2 ssd for your rig.

M.2 is just another standard for SSDs that uses PCI Express. Yes, it's just another storage device but capable of faster speeds.
