I agree. But our defense budget is pathetic, So even this aircraft is financially unrealistic.
@eitleoir1702 жыл бұрын
@@jason32742 Your absolutely right about our defence budget being too small. It should be at least €2 billion. However even with our current budget we could still afford 8-10 of the M-346FA or the supersonic FA-50. It's actually very doable if we spread the aquistion costs over a few years. And on top of that, Leonardo (the company that make the M-346) have actually put forward this jet to the Commission on the Defence Forces for the Air Corps. So it is realistic especially compared to acquiring dedicated fighters, which would obviously be more ideal but light fighter aircraft are still a big jump for capabilities for the Air Corps and a stepping stone into the fighter game.
@jason327422 жыл бұрын
@@eitleoir170 €250 million has been allocated to upgrades over the next four years. So it's not happening anytime soon. Plus we'd need infrastructure upgrades for the aircorps maybe even a new airbase. Casement aerodrome is very small, I remember hearing about American f-18 struggling to land there. How true it is who knows. I prefer the Fa-50 over this to be honest.
@eitleoir1702 жыл бұрын
@@jason32742 Well I do know over €200 million has been allocated for the new C295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft, the cost of which will be spread out over a few years. That doesnt necessarily mean that jets won't happen "anytime soon". Following the Commission the budget is likely to increase if Simon Coveney is going to keep his word. And as I've said aquistion costs can be spread out over mutiple years, and a light fighter aquistion such as the M-346 or FA-50 costs far less than normal fighters. Just as a comparison the Philippines Air Force bought 12 FA-50s for around €380 million, including weapons training and spares. So Ireland is absolutely able to aquire such aircraft if the costs are spread out or the budget increases slighlty to say €1.2 billion from the current €1.07 billion. I'm not sure what "upgrades" your referring to. I've never heard that story of the FA-18 but I'd struggle to believe it's true considering its a carrier based aircraft and designed to take off from relatively short runways. I wouldn't say Casement is "very small" but a second airbase is a requirement I absolutely agree but using Shannon is the likely option as the vast majority of the infrastructure is already there. Also considering Aer Lingus has moved out of Shannon, I'm sure the Air Corps would be very welcome to base aircraft and personnel.

Very impressive aircraft. I wonder if a Leonardo can build this aircraft as big as a F/A-18E/F Super Hornet class. As the Japanese military built the Mitsubishi F-2 (a bigger F-16) with the help of Lockheed Martin.

Leonardo (like others companies, BAE for example) has the technology to make any plane, but for political and cost reduction reasons, "some" projects regarding "some" type of plane are make with allied countries (eg looks to the GCAP project, with GB, Italy and Japan involved). One thing is to make a 20 million plane, another one who costs 100 (so a program that costs 3-4 billion dollars and maybe more), it's clear that you must have certainties regarding not only the plane but also who will purchase it (and other stuff).

I think this guys need to UP their game!... The Chinese variant is more capable ( Hongdu JL-10 ) at Mach 1.4 and cheaper.... The M-346 needs to have 9 hard points, at least 4 tons of armament and at least 3 different engines for costumers around the world and options to have different equipment configuration in avionics, landing gear, radar ... They need to Italianize this little fighter/trainer, make your own engines, landing gear, radars, seat ejectors, APU, wheels,... As it is now, it has only around 20-30% Italian content compared to the Russian variant 100% russian parts or the Chinese variant now with 100% Chinese parts....
@davidebonannini6403 жыл бұрын
pavel deveraux - No sir. Italy has 100% of intellectual property on this plane. The joint program with Yakovlev split apart very soon, years before the plane was even capable of flying, and each party went its own way and took the lead of its own develoment. At the moment, this (not the Russian) is vastly consideresd as the best trainer system, proven and mature, currently on market. Anything else is just on paper or in too early stages to be considered as a viable option. Now you have the Italian variant which is offered to those who need and can afford a superior system, and the Russian Yak which is offered mainly as a lower budget solution to Countries within the area of influence of Russia/former Urss, such as Central Asia and SouthAmerica. But even among those countries, there's a few like Kasakhstan and Azerbaijan who are about to sign for the Italian M346, and others still to be disclosed.
@paveldeveraux27293 жыл бұрын
@Paolo Renga That's a great start!... Now you guys have to swap the British ejection seat for an Italian one or at least the option to put a Chinese or Russian one in its place... Try to use the Ukrainian original engines you'll be able to sell it to more countries..... Or better yet buy the right to produce it in Italy, you guys have all in place to produce it!... And create a few thousand jobs in the process....
@paveldeveraux27293 жыл бұрын
@Paolo Renga I know! This aircraft has Italian all over it as well as the Sukhoi 100.. .. .. There is no loyalty in this business, you have seen how bombardier ( Canada )was torpedoed by Boeing and the US and the monopolies would find any excuse to deny Italy the chance to sell it overseas without their approval!.... Everything has to be made according to your potential custumers....

@jerromedrakejr93323 жыл бұрын
@@Happy-wb8gi Because it is not Russo-Italian jet. This jet could not have been built before the Yak-130, and your comment shows us that you are not familiar with the facts related to this plane and you are showing jealousy. Until the day of judgment, this plane will be and remain a copy of the Russian Yak-130. Little bit of history: In the early 1990s, the Soviet government asked the industry to develop a new aircraft to replace the Czech-made Aero L-29 Delfín and Aero L-39 Albatros jet trainers. Five design bureaus put forward proposals. Among them were Sukhoi's S-54, Myasischev's M-200, Mikoyan's MiG-AT, and Yakovlev's Yak-UTS. In 1991, the other proposals were dropped and only the MiG-AT and Yak-UTS remained. Development of Yak-UTS started in 1991 and the design was completed in September 1993. The same year, Yakovlev entered an agreement with the Italian company Aermacchi to work together on the plane, which now became Yak/AEM-130. The Italians entered into cooperation with the Russians as financiers of the project, and entered into cooperation when the plane was already formed, ie the Italians co-financed the project. OK, the share of Italians in the design is the design of canopy, flight controls, environmental control system and electrical systems, but these are definitely not components of a system that the Russians could not devise on their own, and it is obvious that the Italians were given the opportunity to construct those components as much as they could say that the plane was jointly constructed. Italians exited cooperation in 1999 because they failed to make the variant of the aircraft that will go into serial production be slightly smaller after they found during the testing of the prototype that the size of the aircraft, simply put, did not suit them. In return they were given the right to produce the Italian variant of the Yak-130. So, M-346 is a Copy of Russian jet... One of the articles: www.yak.ru/eng/firm/art_switch.php?art=4
