I’ve always loved M.A.S.K. The scale was never an issue for me as the line was so unique, I just played with them on their own without mixing with other toys. Great video Tony!

I completely agree with you. I do t know why some people complain about the scale and size of the Mask figures. Yes they were a bit smaller than the beloved 3 & 3/4 scale but the figures did the job which was to pilot the Mask vehicles. This toy line wasn’t so much about the figures themselves, it was all about the vehicles and the fact that almost all Mask vehicles came with a figure is almost unheard of when you compare it to all the other toy lines of the time. I definitely give Kenner credit on that. So even though the Mask figures weren’t compatible with other toy lines, it didn’t stop me from really enjoying what this line had to offer.

Why did we have to move away from the greatest decade for toys and end up with what we have now? The joy of imaginative play is slipping away too fast. This site brings back the memories of so many happy days of being a kid. Thank you for that😀

The Condor was the begining, for me. In the most memorable toy purchasing day of all time, this toy was purchased at the grand opening of a NEW Toys R Us, in Montreal Canada. Also, at this grand opening, we were lucky enough to meet David Hasslehoff, who showed up, with KIT!! I'm not talking about the toys. I'm talking about the HOFF and KIT, in real life!!! All the kids were told to stand against the Toyshelf walls. With one side facing the other. We did this for arond 20 minutes ,(but it felt like hours). THEN out of the speakers, came the theme from Night Rider. As the lights dimmed and a small plume of smoke started to rise from the ground, some kids started to get scared, thinking the building was ablaze! Being the son of a Fire Chief, and having common sense, I calmed the others around me. Then, from around the far corner, dressed in Black Leather, came David Hasslehoff. It felt like things were moving in slow motion, as he made his way through the aisles, giving high fives and autographs. When he got to the entrence of the store, the doors slowly opened and we all strained to get a look. Finally, from left to right, came KIT, driven by a small stunt man. He quickly disappeared into the smoke, as the Hoff walked around the car, opened the door and got in! He put on his shades, waved to the crowd and peeled out, toward the back of the long building. I vaguely remember a guy dressed as Geoffrey the Giraffe, walking around, handing out Pre autographed photos, stickers and other memorabilia.... So the Hoff & Toys r Us was why I can remember so well, the day I got my first mask toy, (I think by the end of collecting them, my brother and I had every mask vehicle and Playset) and got to meet one of Europe's Biggest singing Stars in the process). Lol Cheers from Canada

I absolutely adored this toy line as a child. Growing up I loved Gobots, the Transformers, and Superhero action figures like Marvels Secret Wars and DC’s Superpowers. So when Mask came out they pretty much combined all the elements that I loved into one really cool toy line. I still own my childhood Mask vehicles. The one thing that I commend Kenner for doing that most toy lines never did was to include a figure with the vehicle you were purchasing. It was so annoying and downright disappointing that almost all toy lines that included vehicles didn’t come with a figure to pilot set vehicle. Well not Mask, for the most part Kenner made sure of that. For whatever reason I never tried to collect the entire line as an adult but after watching so many great videos like this one, I’m inspired and compelled to start searching and finally finish my Mask collection. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful toy and I definitely agree with you that the 80s were King when it came to adventure play sets! Cheers!

That thing of Rhino not fitting in the door never bothered me, it would have make the shop ridiculously tall, I pretended there was a hidden backdoor on the hill side for Rhino... The only downside for this set was it required to partially disassemble for storage and the process made some parts prone to breaking. My brother and I spent hours playing with it. Only the boulder survive to this day.

Great video. Boulder Hill is definitely among the top 10 1980's toy playsets; I would have loved to have it back in the day (even now 😄) but it was a pretty pricey toy where I grew up (around $20-$30 USD more expensive than the $42 listed on that catalog).

I loved MASK as a kid, and to this day I think The Switchblade and Miles Mayhem is one of the coolest looking villain/vehicle combo in pop culture. One thing that always bugged me about MASK figures is the lack of paint apps for the figures eyes. I know most kids probably kept the masks on 90% of the time, but they kinda had a gingerbread man quality with no visible eyes to me.

Awww I miss that play set, that was so cool! I did always wish there was more to do inside so I had to use my imagination more which was a good thing but it would’ve been cool to have at least even if sold separately the mask distribution table maybe they could’ve just come out with that and had it light up or just come out with that in general with some articulating arms above etc. that would’ve been cool

Nice to see you getting into M.A.S.K Tony, the M.A.S.K toy line were one of the best lines from the 80’s. The engineering involved is in itself awesome. I had most of the first series when I was a kid, including Boulder Hill but I remember feeling a bit let down by this play set. I also wondered how they got the boulder back to the top of the hill, Bruce with his lifter mask I guess. Rhino was my favorite for playability and Raven was the best for engineering design.

In Christmas of '85 both my brother and I because we didn't like to share our toys we each got the Boulder Hill and Rhino truck, yeah I don't know how our parents managed that kind of cash but we got them. The only issue I had with the playset was that I had no room to store this so I'd always place it atop the kitchen refrigerator.

A nice touch about the Boulder Hill HQ was that it was featured regularly but was only attacked only once by VENOM in the cartoons (as far as I know) in contrast to G. I. Joe Headquarters (which was attacked numerous times) in the cartoons. Hope you can do a video on Hasbro’s G. I. Joe Headquarters from 1983-1984 (which was explained away in Marvel’s G. I. Joe #s 19 and 24 as a Pre Fab Fortress).

Heh, I managed to find a complete Boulder Hill on Ebay which was delivered to me earlier today on the 31st of August; just 1 day before my birthday. I only had a few of the smaller vehicles as a child back in the day like Condor and Piranha but owning the other toys including Bunker Hill was a lifelong dream which is now coming true (albeit at a higher pricepoint). Now I wasn't really interested in any of the Season 2 stuff as those episodes made very little sense to me. So I didn't bother getting any of those toys except for a Gloria Baker figure. A shame she's not in her original cartoon colors. 😉 On my Boulder Hill playset I did notice though that my little trapdoor doesn't want to stay closed. From watching the little commercial it seems that the grey tab that is supposed to hold it in place stays outward when in its resting position. I hope I can fix that with a blowdryer to gently warm up the plastic and then keep it in the correct position while it cools. The original stickers were also a bit messy and some already fell off due to the sticky side having dried up over many years. Fortunately both Etsy and Ebay sell replica sheets so I ordered a set from both vendors. In the end I decided to use the sheets from Etsy. They were vinyl instead of paper so that's great and the colors also matched the originals better. The ones I found on Ebay (from Zacparis) were a bit too dark but of great quality otherwise. Only issue with the vinyl ones was that they are pretty thin so any little raised spot in the plastic shows through. All in all I was surprised by the sheer size of the playset but I am very happy to own it now after all these years. Still have to get me some of those rubber hoses. I already saw them being offered on sites like Etsy but they are rather expensive. Perhaps I can find out which diameter the hoses were and then see if there's some cheaper alternative in a hobby store or something. 😃

Does anyone know if the hoses Tony has on the gas pumps are absolutely the correct ones? I have my Boulder Hill from when I was a kid, and the hoses I have are not the Joe style hoses which were more rubbery and glossy. The hoses I have are made from a less glossy plastic and they're stiffer. I only have one left. The other was lost. Does anyone here know the answer to this? I'm pretty sure I have the right hose on mine, but it was so long ago, I just can't remember. Been driving me nuts for years. Tony, congrats on the Action Force figure! Man, that was so awesome. Bobby is a good dude. I want multiples. Need a signed copy. That would be so bad ass!
