small tip for de soldering. it's actually easier to add a bit of fresh solder while heating the component to remove it. then use the solder sucker to remove the solder out the holes AFTER the cap has been removed. cheers for keeping good gear out the land fill!

This video is well done. I appreciate that you demonstrate what sound the defective speaker is making when you power it on and off. My left BX5a went out and it makes the exact same sounds that yours does (did). I do suspect that it's a capacitor problem. Thanks for showing the capacitor type and the link to purchase replacements. I appreciate that you point out the places where you had trouble accessing screws, the glue strips on the metal plate and the tie you had to clip to access the back of the board. I wouldn't have known to do that. Good to know that the capacitors are glued to the board and thanks for the reminder to check the polarity of the pins. I suspect that if I check with an electronics shop the bench charge would be as much as a new speaker, so I'll probably try this fix. Thanks for mapping out the process!

I have had one of my BX5 busted for a couple years now finally getting around to fixing it. Thanks for showing this. Some advice on soldering, keep using the solder sucker more than you did, you can almost get all of it off that way. When installing, it helps to “tin” the leads with just a thin layer of solder before you insert them and then they solder smoothly.

One of my BX5a just crap on me last night, I forgot to turn them off. It makes a hell of noise as you powering it, not good. I will do the job on it on both for preventive reasons. I hope the caps didn't crap all over the board. Thanks for showing what to expect and the link for the cap, nice video.

Thankkk youuu. I bought a set of these speakers for like 40 bucks because one of them was buzzing, figured it might have been a wire at first but then looked into it and I'm pretty techy so I said I'd give it a shot. They sound very good and then my first pair of monitor speakers that have been able to get, especially when paired with the subwoofer you can't go wrong. In my opinion older technology sometimes dies out but they just don't make them the same qualitiy and power nowadays because it's easier to make them cheap and less upgraded for $$$$

Hi, Ive replaced all thw caps on bith of the speakers, but the other seems to still have a loud "thud" sound when turned on but smooth when turned off, the other one was quiet as new, what could be the problem? Could be the positive negative side of the caps? Coz I didnt check when I replaced them, thanks

Seems like this is a common repair on these, mine are doing it now. Man, get a heated solder sucker it will make your desoldering a lot easier and cleaner. It will keep you from scratching up the bored. Watch that iron on you left hand, kinda close to the connected wires😳.

Thanks for the video. It is the best I've seen on the subject. I have one minor problem, though. As you mention in the commentary the two caps are polarized, each cap has a plus and a minus. The positive lead is the longer of the two but I can't tell which is which on the PC board. Could let me know how to tell, please?

HI. are those capacitors part of the power supply ? i have different problem then yours, my BX5a not turning on at all, not even the blue light in front. it since few years ,your video remind me about it ))) there was a burnt smell and i think a pop sound, when it stopped working. checked and replaced the fuse.(i think the fuse was burnt then' i don't remember, but anyway the new/other fuse is ok and not burnt when turning the switch to on. but the speaker is not turning on anyway.

Great video, I've got the BX5 D2's, great speakers... one has started humming, so seems like the same Cap issue based on my research. I was wondering how to "cut" the glue that holds the Cap to the board. Great idea to cut the cover off the Cap! That's what I was looking for, good ideas! Thanks!

Hi, i have two bx5 d2, and in one of them, the woofer stopped working. The sound comes only from the tweeter. What could it be ? Any suggestions ?
@VelocityRecordingStudio
@VelocityRecordingStudio Жыл бұрын
In my video you can see me disconnecting the woofer I would check to see if it somehow got disconnected. If that doesn’t work you may want to do this repair. If you don’t see anything abnormal then I’d suggest getting a new speaker they are cheap enough to replace if need be.

Hey, do you have any idea on how to fix my BX8's? I replaced on of the capacitators a few months ago and a week ago it just went quiet. I have checked the capacitators and they read good voltage. The signal flows from the capacitators as they should. I do not however get any sound, and only about 0.4v out of the speaker connectors on the pcb. Think it could be something else? Like a faulty opamp? Any help is greatly appreciated
@VelocityRecordingStudio
@VelocityRecordingStudio Жыл бұрын
You could re check your solder connections and look for anything out of the ordinary. circuit fault analysis is difficult without seeing the speaker. I’d take it in to a local tech and let them look it over. if it’s not a simple aha fix. I’d shoot for a new one. Repair cost would be more expensive than a new one. Best of luck!
@joeneoj

@@VelocityRecordingStudio Thanks! I've already checked the solder and tried my best tracing the signal. No problem with my soldering. This time. I'll have to hand it in then. OR buy a scope and follow the signal further.

Hi, How do the monitors sound connected to the pc without the interfase?
@VelocityRecordingStudio
@VelocityRecordingStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Hey awesome question! I will attach the link below to the manual, although I would not recommend that option due to the fact you have no control it could have a impedance imbalance so it will sound close to the same depending on the output impedance of your compu
