Tarantulas in the video:
Monocentropus Balfouri - Socotra Island Blue Baboon Tarantula
Tarantulas are fascinating creatures that make great pets for many reasons. First and foremost, they are low maintenance and relatively easy to care for. With the right setup and regular feeding, a tarantula can live for many years and bring joy to its owner.
To properly care for a tarantula, it's important to provide them with a suitable enclosure that mimics their natural environment. This includes a substrate that allows for burrowing and hiding, as well as hiding spots and proper ventilation. Tarantulas also require a regular source of food, such as crickets or other insects, and access to clean water. Additionally, it's important to monitor the temperature and humidity levels of their enclosure to ensure they are living in a comfortable environment.
Aside from their low maintenance care, tarantulas are also great pets because they are fascinating creatures to observe. They have unique behaviors and are highly adaptive to their surroundings. Watching a tarantula eat or molt can be a truly captivating experience. Plus, they come in many different shapes and sizes, making them a great addition to any collection.
In conclusion, tarantulas are great pets for those who appreciate their unique qualities and are willing to provide them with proper care. Their low maintenance needs and interesting behaviors make them an ideal pet for many, and their longevity means they can provide companionship for many years. If you're looking for a pet that is both fascinating and low maintenance, consider adding a tarantula to your family.

I currently have 4 balfouri (about 3.5-4” dls) that were in a communal when they were rehomed to me. I split them up into individual enclosures because I intend on breeding them and there is only one female to 3 suspected males. I want to be able to keep a close eye on the female and feed her up before breeding but anyways I wanted to say that they were much more docile when in a communal setup. Now I get threat poses from them occasionally when I’m just changing water dishes out or removing an old bolus. Strange little creatures. Love them!

The moult box made me laugh :P I keep every single one of my moults in jars. Amazing footage. I wondered why it is recommended to have a group bigger than 5 and seemingly the bigger the better? I ask as my balfouri did cannibalise :'(. I thought I did my research and kept 6 in a small enclosure to encourage them to set up home together which they did do - I saw them all in the tunnel together. However about 2 years later they were rehoused and only 3 were left; one really fat. There was only one half of a dead body found so it looks like 2 were fully eaten, rather than any dying for another reason. They were only around 1-1.5cm big when they arrived though, so am wondering if it could be something to do with what you mentioned about how they should stay with the mother longer?

great content. one quickie do you feed mon with sac and any technique on how to get another mom to adopt sling from other sac. Thanks!
@UrbanTarantulas
@UrbanTarantulas Жыл бұрын
I typically do NOT feed the mom when she is guarding an eggsac. We start feeding the mom when the babies have emerged and are 1st instar (after eggs with legs) and she will take the prey and chew it up with her fangs, and the little babies will start foraging from her. And you can totally throw in other babies into there (granted that they are the same size) and she would totally adopt the newcomers.

I've fallen in love with 🕸 spiders. Balfori❤️ When I was a little girl (40+yrs ago) I watched a movie called Kingdom of Spiders with the guy from the original star treck was in it..late 70s early 80s. That movie scared the bee jeebus out of me. But watching these videos,learning about the species. I have a lot of respect for tarantulas.

@@ixithixyl9227 I'm also a big fan of that movie. My experience wasn't of horror but amazement. You had a gorgeous lady scientist find one in her room and she just picks it up (Mexican red knee) like it was nothing. That told me they weren't dangerous or mean biters. I noticed the town's people who took part in the movie were brave enough to have them on their bodies. lol Not long after that an episode of "That's Incredible " with Kathy lee Crosley had a guest on the show with red knee tarantulas and Ms. Lee landed up holding one. From then on I wanted one bad.

@UrbanTarantulas

that should be fine as long as they are already communal, which you said you have 2. So, in my opinion they should be fine as long as they are about the same size. How big are they and what size enclosure are they in? You can email me as well by the way.

Don’t know why everyone says balfouri has to be kept In a smaller enclosure. I’ve not seen that. I’ve kept 6 balfouri in a pretty big enclosure without any problems. And have seen hundreds of others do the same thing. With the Metallica now they do need to be kept closer quarters I’ve found.
@UrbanTarantulas
@UrbanTarantulas Жыл бұрын
I do believe from my experience that they tend to do better in smaller quarters, less casualties on large communals. It's just safer in my opinion, just like with the Pokies. I've also heard of people keeping them in large terrariums without issues, that goes to say that balfouri are the most communal of all species :)

If one was to escape in transit I'm sure whoever was to find it would freak out! I know I certainly would! Can we say it's ethical to send them by post?! I think it would be better to travel and pick it up from breeders..

I've order most of my Ts online. Just recently bought a communal from Urban. The shipping process is simple, little pill like vials with little holes to allow air, they damp a paper towel and roll the T inside it and put it in the vial. They ship it with styrofoam so they don't roll around and depending on temperature they will include 48 hour heat packs. The shipping is overnight fedex, I've had them get delayed for 2 days and be fine.
