As a 63 y/o caucasian Texas cowboy, I believe Anita Mui and Teresa Teng were the greatest singers of all time, any culture, era, genre of music. They were both incredible, in every way. They totally usurp any American singer I've ever heard, and melt me with their elegance, beauty, heart felt sincerity, soul, depth of emotion, and matchless voices. Many thanks for this one. Blessings from a Texas cowboy, Lake Texoma, Texas.

Anita was one of the rare artists who can interpret the song to make it her own. When she sings, you feel everything that she wants you to feel. It's a gift, a talent, that so few artists possess. What an elegant rendition of this song. You feel that pain, the loneliness, but also the strength of resolve from her singing. She has sung this song many, many times, but this is, without a doubt, the perfect rendition. The passing of Anita is a tremendous loss for all the fans.
I agree with the various posters -- even when she was sick, she still brought out every emotion in every note, and made the song so meaningful. Even with terminal cancer, she sang better than anyone in today's pop music scene.
Anita, I'll always love you and miss you.... When I listened to her fist album introduced in 1985, I asked my friend to buy all her albums in HK. I should have almost all the albums she had, cassetes and CDs. Anita is my favorite singer forever.
no one can ever replace such a legend this song is about when leslie cheng. He promised her that if he didn't marry anyone he would marry her ( even though he's gay )
The prettiest voice a human ever had. ( 56 year old caucasian former Texan )

I think she still sang better than most of the HK singers now. She was the greatest and still the greatest in my era. Very sad to see her so sick...she is in a better place now.

come on she was the Cantopop Queen of her era.. After she left then the other female singers came upfront, to the limelight.. 三王一后

I began my interest in Asian singers when I watched the "Kill Bill 1,2" movies and heard the incredibly enchanting voice of Kaji Meiko. She remains one of my favorites. That led me to Enka and J Pop, singers like Miki Imai, Mariko Takahashi, Momoe Yamaguchi, all great female Japanese singers. A Japanese on line friend wrote me about Teresa Teng. To me, she was the greatest ever. Her music led me to Chinese singers, Anita Mui, Faye Wong, from mainland and Taiwan. No US singer even comes close.

Music truly has no borders; she was a true diva indeed. Did you know she was weeks away from succumbing to cervical cancer in this video? This was her final major concert before she passed away.

This song bring sadness. Sadness in that a true performer is no longer with us. Sadness in that the good old days are gone forever. Used to follow all her songs when I was in courtship with my girlfriend. The art of singing of this song exhibits true and sincere passion in one's profession.

Dear friend, your comments inspired me to began study of Bai Hong. I've done this with all the great Asian singers I like. I've now heard two video songs by Bai Hong, read some bios on her life, and agree totally that she was one of the greatest of all time. I recall Teresa Teng speaking very respectfully about Bai Hong and Zhao Xuan. Now I know why. Awesome singers, with timeless voices, crossing generations, space and time. Many thanks from Graham Lake, Texas.

Agree totally. Madonna could never match Anita Mui, in depth, talent, charm, charisma, influence. I say this as a 63 y/o Caucasian Texas cowboy, with bias for Asian performers. To me, Teresa Teng, Anita Mui, were timeless, incredibly talented, and never equalled.

Anita Mui was an excellent singer, performer and actress. I do not agree the with description of her as the Madonna of the East. Madonna is a great performer but I did not find her to be a great singer, neither could she act. Anita Mui is a class of her own!
