This performance is so powerful, you can see Damiano holding back the tears and turning away several times. Unfortunately this video cuts off before you see the host of Sanremo come out and comfort him as he does break down on his shoulder. I listen to this at least once a day for the past 2 years and I often almost breakdown with him. The song touches on all the things you noticed, bullying, low self-esteem, eating disorders, emotional/physical parental abuse and suicidal thoughts. It is literally an anthem for mental health issues. My favorite part is where the singer is begging her to let him help and all he wants is for her to smile or give him some of her time. That every one of her tears is like an ocean on HIS face. To have a friend that wants to be there for you like that would be the greatest gift. Thank you so much for this beautiful heart-felt reaction, I really appreciate the attention and insight you gave this amazing song.

Thx. The theme is self destruction, a sad side of society. It's amazing, that Damiano was only around 20 years old, when he wrote these lyrics about such a dark subject. It's not about a specific person, but inspired by his then girlfriend. Peace.

The end has been interpreted as suicide and she is now resting the cemetery. The cemetery in Rome has high walls surrounding it. The song maybe loosely based on his long time girlfriend who was in the audience that night. Also this was a guest spot on the show on the anniversary of their win there the previous year. I particularly thought that Ethan's drumming was rather exceptional here.

Thank you Zack. I really enjoy hearing your take on them. We'll bring you back to present day soon enough. This was Damiano's favourite pick in a lot of interviews. He doesn't always go personal, he says, but this one seems to be. No idea who he actually refers to, but it was a dear friend. I read it as a story of domestic sexual abuse that led to a miscarriage and ultimately the choice not to continue in this world. Hence the reference to Castello. I don't think it matters to je who it is, I think the story is real enough, too real for too many people in this world, and just one of the ones that need to be kept in the open to give people channels to reach out from those situations and find others who will listen and help.

It was later confirmed that it was about his girlfriend ( well, he hinted at it and she later confirmed it and told the whole story in an interview). I agree that the backstory actually doesn't matter because the lyrics are obviously always open to interpretation, but it should be noted that the real Coraline hasn't died- he said that he shared the song with her and that she appreciates.

My interpretation is also that she took her life. He tried everything to reach her. He called her different names, he asked her one million times to tell him her truths, he told her many times that she can grow up and leave. But she was stuck in the storm, in a river (the references to water and the music is "stormy"). And then suddenly at the end the story goes on: She loses a child, she then sees a solution to end the pain. I know the ex-girlfriend said it's about her. But Måneskin always say they do not tell who it is about. Just someone they knew.

But it was before-when they said it. Their relationship wasn't even public back then. Actually he said he shared it with that person, while laughing about it, so the real Coraline didn't take her life.

We don't know the exact story behind this. The only sure think is that it was inspired by his (then) girlfriend. Damiano wrote a note about it on his social accounts after this performance. How much "inspired" we obviously don't know.

@@zack_reactsThe day after this performance, he posted on his social media thanking his (now ex) girlfriend who "made me write it." That's translated from Italian, but based on that, I'm guessing at least she inspired it or encouraged him in some way. In another interview, the band mentioned that "Coraline" is alive and doing fine. There's no doubt he was emotional here because it was the band's first time back home in Italy after a long and eventful year abroad, and their friends and family were in the audience. ... And about those jumpsuits in the other video thumbnail: Those are the outfits they were wearing when they won the Sanremo festival competition the prior year (2021). They returned to the festival the following year (2022) with this amazing performance of Coraline.
