I drove from Albuquerque, NM to Phoenix, AZ (8 hours) alone to see this band. I thought I would be the oldest person in the audience. Wrong. Many lates 60, 70 yo people absolutely loving this music.

They released this when the war in ukraine began, against the russian leader (Russia was one of the biggest gasoline exporter in europe before the war, so there was a whole gas crisis after that.. there are many great lyrics that go way deeper in the song). They’re so young but they have the guts to stand up for what they believe in explicitly, without sugarcoating anything. ps. siriusxm is available just in the usa i believe cause here in italy there isn’t any radio station with that name, they filmed it there in the us

None of the other members sing, so Damiano is on his own. Gasoline is currently the only song where they are using a backing track in live shows. On their latest album, where Gasoline is from, they worked with US based songwriters, so they have had some help tackling the English lyrics. Based on interviews it seems like Damiano is still the main lyricist, although all members are credited, along with professional songwriters.

I've always appreciated how all the band members play/sing their parts in a way that best suits the song musically. They don't show off technique because they don't have to. They just keep learning and growing.

One of my favorite things in your reactions is how you also know music and performing from personal experience. I'm not a musician myself, so I like your take on what they do. I like how they can exude so much energy in such a small space, too. Plus, the bass in this song makes my bones vibrate, it's so crunchy. I came from punk, so I appreciate effective simplicity over aimless virtuosity, and they excel at it. I also appreciate how it always feels like a collaboration between them, not just the singer and his backing band. They're all equally important in the equation to make this work.

Correct analysis as always. It is often underestimated that the sound of this band is so good despite having only one voice (the others can't really sing) and one guitar. The consideration about Thomas (the guitarist) is also very correct; he is not a virtuoso but he has an extraordinary musical sensitivity: when you listen to "Vent'anni" (which can be considered the "ideological manifesto" of this band) you will have another example of a technically simple but musically delicious solo.

Never seen this performance of this song, only live concert performances. Interesting to see the details of what they are doing. This is a different sound for them. Mike, I’m older than you, not a musician, but an old “Rocker”, I F’n love this band after discovering them about 2 years ago. Takes me back to my younger years, yet it’s fresh! BTW, I “discovered “ them on YT after listening to a really good Irish busker named Allie Sherlock do a cover of their cover of Beggin’…..which then led me down the same rabbit hole you are now going down. Saw them live last December and have tix for their Nashville show next week!

Jokes aside, here we consider Maneskin the most international rock Italian band ever. Damiano has lived a lot in UK and this is why he has got an English accent. For the rest, they surprised also Italians. When they competed in X-Factor Italy they simply shocked all. They were young, rookies, but incredibly catchy.

Hello thanks for Maneskins reactions!! I can see that bit of sweat that I see it to others reactors in this two years I know they bring emotions and energy. Will be good if you can put subtitles when you listen their songs in Italian. Worth translate the liric expecially songs like " Nel nome del padre" that you already reacted to. Beautiful songs like " Coraline", "Torna a casa" or "Ventanni" deserve to translate because are beatiful lirics. They started in the street of Rome and if you like you can still find them videos in tube too. Most of the old song they composed when they were very young. Sending greeting from London!!! 🖤

Before they won Eurovision in 2021, the majority of their songs were in Italian. And Damiano and Victoria (the singer and bassist) were really the only ones fluent in English but even then, they had strong Italian accents. Now, just a couple years later, damianos accent when singing is almost non existent and all four of them are fluent. It’s really impressive. It shows much they’ve been travelling and performing in English speaking countries and around the world.

They wrote this song in just a day or so, as others have said right after the war broke out. You really don't want to be hearing the rest of them sing. Damiano's parents were flight attendants and spoke English fluently so he learned it at a young age. Ethan and Thomas are pretty good at English now.

Vic was best at English all along, as she also was fluent in Danish. Damiano knew a little English and now is quite good at it. Thomas and Ethan knew only a little but are improving gradually to the point where they have pretty good comprehension and adequate speaking. I feel for them, as I’m not a native English speaker either!

It's a great reaction, of an amazing performance! This band has many, many great songs, but most of them get a really higher level when they play it live! Their live shows are outstanding! One main KEY of most of their songs, it's the "crescendo"... most start on a low rhythm and go higher and higher, to a kind of apotheosis, and then ends drastically.
@Barbara_M.
@Barbara_M. 11 ай бұрын
They wrote this song almost 18 months ago as a reaction to Russian invasion of Ukraine as you probably guessed. One thing you'll notice about Maneskin if you continue your exploration is that they really have become young adults while learning and experimenting so you'll find different levels and genres in their songs. Another thing which personally I love is how cohesive they are and everything they do on stage is of service to the perfomance: there isn't a leader and 3 subordinates each one of them has his/her place and moment but even when they get the spotlight they always play serving the song and the performance never to tickle their ego.. sometimes some musicians go off on a tangent with their technical virtuosity and that's more for themselves than the audience...

Congratulations for your reviews. you perfectly captured where the greatness of this band is. Certainly not in technical ability even if this is not lacking. But in the wise use of instruments, in the groove, in the amalgam, in the creativity, in the ability to stay on stage, in the freshness of the compositions that draw on tradition but which also know how to bring something new. Congratulations again!😊

Alright, now you've made me curious about the little snare drum attached to the kiko. That's what I finally found on internet: It's called subkick and it is a specialty mic that picks up sub bass frequencies that smaller diaphragm mics simply cannot. Used live, these really help pick up the boominess of the bass drum. In recording, it is used to make the sound fuller and thicker. In designing the subkick, it looks like a small drum, giving the whole drum set a more organic look. So we have an explanation! Good life to you! Greatings from Italy...
