In this video Leah discusses Ménière's disease in the context of VA disability compensation. She explains that many service members and veterans suffer from Ménière's disease, an inner ear disorder causing vertigo, dizziness, disorientation, hearing loss, tinnitus, nausea, and sweating. Symptoms can last from minutes to 24 hours and may be confused with other conditions like BPPV. Leah emphasizes the importance of consulting healthcare providers for proper diagnosis. She outlines how Ménière's disease can be service-connected on a primary basis (directly during service) or secondary basis. A significant aspect is its association with acoustic noise exposure, referencing a study on post-traumatic Ménière's disease.

I was given ten percent for tinnitus. I used to be a teacher but I had to stop because I was having drop attacks and nearly passed out. This was occurring two to three times a week. So when school ended I paid to get a hearing test. I was found to have hearing loss in my left ear where the tinnitus is really loud. Then they did a test on me and they found me as having meniere's in my left ear. I worked in air freight and i worked on the flightline around C5 aircraft. I was exposed to jet fuel and aircarft engine noise. I filed with VA. They awarded me with hearing loss in the left ear. But they said my meniere's was not service-related. This even with me having my doctor writing a nexus letter and saying it was directly related to exposure to loud noises. A VA attorney has since filed for me a higher level review. Because of my conditions I can't work and I have been diagnosed with MDD which my psychiatrist also wrote a nexus letter claiming my service related conditions are a result of my military exposures. The VA gave me 50 percent for that. And I have 10 percent for tinnitus. It is disappointing and quite frankly frustrating knowing how the VA is cheating me out of what is obviously a condition of what I was exposed to working on the flightline at Travis AFB from 1981 to 1985.

You mentioned working near generators. That's the reason I have hearing loss and Meniere's Disease. However, the MOS noise exposure chart lists my MOS as not being a loud one. Those generators were extremely loud, and usually I was at the end of an airfield. Hearing protection was sparsely available.

Hi Leah, God bless you for providing all your super helpful VA vet claims updates and videos! You have made my VA claims process much easier and smarter. I’m retired Army. I served 18 years in combat arms with missions in Africa, Central America, Europe, and the Middle East. Thus, I’ve received service-connected claims by doing what you say in your videos. But here’s my problem. Last month, the VA Benefits folks granted me a NEW service-connected 30% rating for my Meniere’s syndrome. Then, they took away my 10% Tinnitus service-connected rating because they combined the 2 conditions into only 1 combined condition at a total service-connected 30% rating. Is this normal? Uncommon? A big VA Benefits folks mistake? If you were me, how would you proceed to separate my 2 conditions so that they each get different ratings- 30% for Meniere’s syndrome and another 10% for Tinnitus? Big thanks again!

Great information. I was denied for Meniere's disease. Currently, I am 10% Tinnitus and have an open claim for my hearing loss. The denial letter stated that the C&P exam found no link to service or my current disability. Also stated that Meniere's disease is less than likely due to the result of tinnitus. Then went about talking about how the cause of Meniere's disease is unknown. How can I fight this?

ENT said I may have menires. However my audio test came back negative. A vertigo test my PC showed I had vertigo. ENT did the movement test and showed negative. Do think Meniere's can be caused by tinnitus? While I didn't think I have it, I did get sent to an ENT at the VA because when my tinnitus flares up I often am his with intense vertigo at the same time. I've had tinnitus for many years, but the vertigo started 5 or 6 years ago. I recently brought it up to my neurologist, who sent me to the ENT. Now I think he was a joker and trying to get me out as quickly as possible, but the only option he offered up for the vertigo was possible Meniere's Disease and he prescribed me a diuretic. He of course did not document MD anywhere in my file, nor did he diagnose me with anything. He basically just decided to treat me for it and send me on my way. I don't feel confident in his course of action, but it has me curious if tinnitus has been known to cause MD?

Is there an MOS sheet that tells you what you automatically qualify for when it comes to disabilities? For example, a mechanic is always working on his knees, twisting in awkward positions and lifting heavy parts. 20 years later I still have back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain from my time in the military as a mechanic but never went on sick call even when I hurt myself on duty cause going to sick call was frowned upon so it’s not on my medical records.🤦🏿‍♂️

Hello sir I am glad you are enjoying the content. I often see Menieres related to acoustic noise exposure and it is not lumped with tinnitus for pyramiding at this time. Already 10% tinnitus and 0% L Ear I do actually have many episodes of dizziness due to Sinusitis pressure, especially after my L eartube recently fell out. I was curious if you have seen or delt with Meniers from Sinusitis. Absolutely part of the equation is property tying my current Sinusitis to my military URIs, Rhinitis and OSA in STR diagnosis.
