Hi John, The Märklin 72752 control box is part of the "Start up" series. The "Start up" series is made for kids 6+ years (I believe) to be able to easily connect with little complications. The idea is to start with a starter set from the "Start up" series e.g. Märklin 29184. Then you are able to use the Märklin 72752 control box with turnouts equipping with the Märklin 74492 turnout mechanism's. All are connected with special cables. As far as I can see you can only use the Märklin 72752 with the special base station in the starter sets of the "Start up" series using the special "Start up" cables. When you have a "Start up" starter set, the Märklin 72752 control box and the Märklin 74492 turnout mechanism it seems to be easy to connect as the cables can only be connected in one way enabling children to connect it. As an example you can use the Marklin 29184 "Start up" starter set, the Märklin 72752 "Start Up" control box and the Märklin 74492 "Start up" turnout mechanism. To be honest I have not looked into the "Start up" series and I do not have any of the pieces (except the Märklin 74492), so I do not know how to or if there is another way. However, you got me interested in the series, so I might look into it in the future - perhaps a good series to show how to get kids into the hobby? What are you intending to use the Märklin 72752 for? Hope this helps? Enjoy ;-) Unfortunate

@ModelTrainFun Жыл бұрын
Hi Ross, If you are talking about the Trix C-track, then you can do the same with the Trix turnouts (62611/62612 & 62671/62672 & 62711/62712) and double slips (Trix 62624). You use the same Märklin turnout decoders (Märklin/Trix 74460/74461/74462 & Märklin 60831/60832) and turnout mechanisms (Märklin/Trix 74490/74491/74492) for the Trix C-track. So this video applies for Trix C-track as well. As a rule of thumb all Märklin C-track are available as Trix C-track and you can do the same things. Only difference is 3-rail vs 2-rail and you do train detection differently (Use S88 DC instead of S88 AC). Enjoy ;-)

Thanks for the useful video! I was wondering.. If you don't have a Central Station, but only an MS2, I guess there isn't really any reason to get the "newest" version of the decoder, since you'll have to use the DIP switches anyways, right? You can't just assign the different MFX addresses as you want, through the MS2? Thank you in advance!
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 2 жыл бұрын
Agree you do not need the newest version of the decoder for the MS2. You must use the DIP switches with the MS2. However, if you are going to upgrade to CS3 later it might be handy. Usually it is same price, but you can find the older versions on sale. Enjoy ;-)

Hello. First of all: you make great videos and have already learned a lot from them. Fantastic! And thank you very much! Small question: you say that the decoders are ideal for temporary jobs, because you don't need any wiring under the table(s). That's why I want to use them this way, but for a final layout. I think it's just a matter of what your way of working is and certainly your budget. I know it will cost a lot more, but I think it's worth investing in. After that, no more trouble finding the cable if there is a malfunction or problem with the switch in question. What do you think ? Temporary = YES, permanent = YES (that's my opinion). Suppose you go for final layout: do you also have to take power flow into consideration? I am thinking here of boosters or something? Or do these decoders not consume much? Thanks in advance for the response and please keep up the great videos!
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun Ай бұрын
Hi M M, I am glad you find the videos useful! I find that turnout decoders under the track fits the way I make temporary layouts. I do agree you can do the same for permanent layouts and this will simplify your wiring, but be a little more costly. As for the power management on your layout I don't think it will change much in either case. You always have to consider the layout power and divide your layout depending on size and number of accessories to ensure reliable power. To me the biggest issue with decoders under the turnout is when you built your layout you will ballast the track and make landscape. If there is an issue with the turnout decoder, then it is very difficult to get access to it. You will have to pull up the turnout to troubleshoot and fix. Hence, it becomes a question of troubleshooting / replacement accessibility on your layout. Tip: If you are using the Viessmann slow-moving turnout decoders - they typically are more reliable and will more rarely fail (see kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdJ-l9Sg3NeWhnk.html). Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

@@ModelTrainFun Thank you Bo for the extended explanation. You have a good point about trouble with the turnout decoders.But suppose you have wired everything under the table, you still need to dissamble your ballast on the track ..; No ? Or do I see it wrong now ... ? In any case troubles with the equipment, will always ask a troubleshooting even if you think, I used the best way ... 😄 PS In any case : the Viesmann tip I will keep it in mind

@@MM-ul7sb You are correct that you still need to disassemble to get to the turnout mechanism, but you do not need to get to the turnout decoder... but that being said they issue is more often then the mechanism and seldom the decoder... hence, hmmmm - one will often have the issue... So I guess only price is the difference. Enjoy ;-) Bo

Well once you have the CS3 or CS3+ you can then attach the mobile station to your CS3 - A word of warning clear your mobile station and then add your trains from the CS3
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed the Mobile Station 2 can be attached to the CS3 and locomotives will be added from the master - which in this case is the CS3 as it always becomes the master over MS2. I do not clear the trains as the latest MS2 updates have given us plenty of locomotive slots and I also use the MS2 by itself. If you intent to only use it with the CS3 then you can benefit from clearing the locomotive slots. Have fun ;-)

i really need help. I'm just starting with Marklin digital. Bought the startset 29074 together with the digital set 24802. Train automatically recognized by MS2, running fine. When I add the digital turnout and I turn on the track. I push the stop button and my train automatically is moving on full speed while there is no speed applied on the MS2. I've added the first turnout on address 1. I start with only 1 turnout but it seems I do something wrong because I can't control my train anymore when the turnout is attached to the track.
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds very strange. Normally when a locomotive speeds along like that then it's is it thinks it's being used as analogue, but it's on a digital track. This should not happen when you are using the MS2. I would try the following: 1. verify that the MS2 use the correct protocols (just in case). Start the MS2 and while in STOP mode check: SHIFT+Turnout. Choose "Loco Protocols. Ensure it is set for "mfx, DCC, MM2". Do the same for SHIFT+Turnout -> "Accesory Protocols". This should be MM. 2. Check each turnout without the locomotive by setting a new address and trying it out. a. With POWER OFF b. Connect only one track to MS2 c. Ensure that brown from connector box goes to "O" and red to "B". d. Set address on turnout to 10 MM address (only dip 2 & 4 to on and 10 must be off) - use 11 for second turnout (only 1, 2 &4 to on and 10 must be off). It is important that you change the address on both turnouts - if they were same address before, then change to another address. You MUST change the address before continuing (do not change back). It MUST be in MM mode (dip 10 off). e. Connect one turnout to the one track f. POWER ON MS2 g. Select Turnout and try turnout on address 10. Does it work? any problems? h. if all works, enter STOP mode. Remove the turnout, connect and try the other turnout on address 11. Go out of STOP mode after 2nd turnout connected and try it. i. If both turnouts work go to step 3 below 3. With still only one track and one turnout put the locomotive on the track and try each turnout in turn. a. With POWER OFF b. Connect only one track to MS2 c. Ensure that brown from connector box goes to "O" and red to "B". d. POWER ON e. try locomotive. speed, direction and light works? Be ready to catch the locomotive. f. Enter STOP mode g. connect turnout with address 10. h. go out of STOP mode i. try locomotive. speed, direction and light works? Be ready to catch the locomotive. j. try turnout on address 10 k. Enter STOP mode. l. try 2nd turnout on address 11 using steps f-k. Disconnect turnout 10 first. Let me know what the result is. Enjoy ;-)

@@ModelTrainFun Hi and thank you very much for the quick answer! Unfortunately it doesn't do anything. When I hit the stop button to get power on the rails, I hear a light zoom sound on the turnover. I select keyboard 10/11 and doesn't do anything. Protocols are correctly configured. Address also on 2 and 4. I then switched the other turnout on address 11, added it to the track and that works! I can control the train normally now and doesn't go into full speed. So it seems I have 1 broken turnout unfortunately and it was new in the box... I will go to the store and ask for a replacement. Now I know for the future if I have problems I have to try the turnouts 1 by 1 :). Thank you a lot to clear everything out!
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 2 жыл бұрын
@@fiverBE It is unfortunate that one turnout is not working - indeed bring it to the store. As for the troubleshooting I usually always try things one by one to identify the faulty item. In this case the turnouts came with the turnout decoder and turnout mechanism pre-mounted. If you had done it by yourself I would also test the decoder and mechanism individually. Hope you have great fun with these starter sets. Enjoy ;-)

@ModelTrainFun 3 жыл бұрын
@@claudiog2379 I would start by double checking the wiring. Make sure "Brown" to "0" and "Red" to "B" both for the decoder and the CS3. Make sure the wire from the decoder to the turnout mechanism is plugged in as well. Check all wires are firmly in and not loose. Especially the connection to the track could potentially be loose either for the decoder or the CS3. Page 28 in the 74461 manual is helpful for the wiring.
@ModelTrainFun
@ModelTrainFun 3 жыл бұрын
Then I would double check the dip switch address. Use the table on page 39 in the manual. Make sure the decoder is aligned with the picture on page 39 on the manual and ensure every little switch is firmly pressed towards ON or OFF as appropriate for the chosen address. If you want to us Marklin (MM/FX) format make sure switch 10 is on OFF (page 38).

Hi Michael, you can wire the lanterns separately, from the track or from the decoder. Using a separate light power supply allows you to save power for the trains and control independently of the track power. If you connect to the decoder you can in theory control each one independently, but I did not find a good way to control it from the MS2/CS3. Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo
