Hi everyone! Welcome to my channel and to another weekly grocery haul 😁
This week, I have tried out Marks & Spencer's to see what their prices are like compared to other supermarkets, and what makes their food 'better' than the other shops...I.also popped to Lidl for a few of the things I couldn't get in M&S.
Hope you enjoy the haul 😘

Fab haul! I always have in my head it's going to be super expensive there but actually a lot of things were pretty reasonable. My big problem with M&S is me, I go in and see the delicious charcuterie bits and the next thing I know I'm walking out thinking I need to remortgage... xx

You’re a bit of a strict mum, then aren’t you if you don’t let your kids have treats… what if it’s a child’s birthday at school and they give them a packet of sweets do you take them off them as well?
@MumLifeAndMore
@MumLifeAndMore 6 ай бұрын
You're probably new to my channel if you think I'm a strict mum 😂 (go back and see some of my previous hauls lol) they had so much sugar over the Xmas period that we're scaling right back on it now. We're allowing them something for their pudding after dinner each day, but im not putting treats in their lunchboxes or giving them after school. They have enough natural sugar in fruit and juices, etc, that I don't want them eating lots of rubbish when I can help it. Obviously, if they're given sweets at school, they have them, and we bought them brownies and hot chocolates while we were out today. But I'm trying to instill healthier eating habits in them, especially my eldest as he's 10 and in the next few years will be making some more of his own food choices 🙂

Something that totally shocked me the other day, but as a fan of M&S, I feel for from-scratch ingredients, they're pennies difference to other supermarkets like Tesco etc, but!!! I watched a series called "you are what you eat" on Netflix, and I am shell shocked. Like you I've been trying to make healthier changes, without realising those salmon fillets and other expensive fish saying "responsibly sourced" is basically lies, I never knew they were essentially farmed in these huge circular environments where they are surrounded in their own feces etc, and carry bacteria that isn't even scientifically proven to not travel into our guts and cause us serious issues. The fruit as we know has always been sprayed with other animal feces, but I didn't realise how badly, so I am washing them even more now and trying to buy organic if I can but they are so much more expensive. I think we never truly know what we're eating unless we see those ingredients ourselves. Dextrose, sucralose etc all the bad things are always hidden in there somewhere, a new one I noticed is malodextrin. I think that's what It's called? But honestly meat / dairy industry after watching that series made me feel kind of awful, especially the chickens being pumped full of anti biotics, which they said as we consume them, by 2030 things like cuts will be killing us because we've eaten those same anti biotics through the chickens etc etc. It made me feel like giving up on my healthy journey but all I know is that we can only do what we can. All your food looks yummy, and life is too short to worry too much, we know the basics to avoid. M&S fresh things, meat, tinned things and pasta I love, the ready made things like others say truly are expensive, they taste great but more of a treat, like a takeaway. Anyway, sorry for my long comment, but you're the only other KZfaqr I know that speaks on these unhealthy things in our food. Hope you're well xx

They also covered processed foods, like sausages, burgers etc, but mainly sausages and sausage meat, and how they are actually carcinogenic but how we love them so much, and they are addictive so we continue to buy and so we kind of take the risks, sometimes unknowingly, even though science has shown, like cigarettes, they can cause cancer etc. I don't think I could entirely sacrifice those but I will defo try to have them rarely from now on. I recommend the series if you ever get a moment to watch some xx

We live in a 1st floor maisonette. So we have our own private entrance to the property, our own back garden, but we're above our downstairs neighbours, all on one level, if that makes sense. There has been debate whether I live in a flat or a maisonette, but flats typically have shared entrances and gardens. It was marketed as a maisonette, so that's what we call it ☺️xx

Just shop at M and S and be done. Quality is beyond exceptional. Prices are good if you shop the offers. (Shop two weekly if needed). There will be a lot less of the nasties your trying to avoid. Spectacular fail with the dregs of sausage rolls you bought. That said, I eat very well but am partial to a haggis 😉
@Tollingduckie
@Tollingduckie 6 ай бұрын
It's hard because they're expensive. I get they are better quality but not all of us have that sort of money to waste on expensive produce. We are all trying to watch the pennies! I went there once as there was a matalan next to it which I needed to go to, so I thought I'd check it out and walked out after 5 minutes. The prices were just extortionate and can get them for much cheaper in Aldi / Lidl. I've never had problems there so I rather stick to that and save money lol

I don’t understand how all these people can say M&S is good value/cheap. Yes for certain items they price match Tesco or are a few pence off but most of it is stupidly expensive. We are fortunate to live next to a retail park so I have Tesco, Lidl, Aldi and M&S within a 400 meter radius of my front door. I do use M&S occasionally - 1, I prefer their baked beans 50p a tin it’s the same as Tesco own and I think 2/3p more than Lidl, I dislike the really cheap beans. 2, bread and milk if that’s all I need it’s easier to pop in there than go into one of the other supermarkets and queue. 3, occasionally I will go in later in the day and find yellow sticker meat/fish bargains but that’s very rare . You did ok for £72, there’s a decent amount

I’ve never been especially impressed with M&S. I do think they trade on their name and a somewhat lost reputation for quality, and I’ve never personally thought their food tastes any different to the same thing bought elsewhere, but there’s always been a definite difference in the price. I’ve noticed that they are trying to reduce some prices to bring them in line with other supermarkets and why not? Frankly, a carrot is a carrot, and those tomatoes look (and will likely taste) exactly like any other watery, tasteless tomato bought anywhere at this time of year. I don’t think it’s their fault, I think it’s just a matter of demand. People want to eat strawberries in December, even thought they taste of absolutely nothing - and that’s true whether they’re from Aldi, M&S or Fortnum’s, because it’s the wrong time of year for them - and they won’t taste any sweeter regardless of where you buy them. But I get that there are still people who want to believe that their purchases are somehow superior and are willing to pay the extra as a result.

I thought the fruit and veg were nice, but the same as elsewhere. I was impressed with the blueberries and raspberries, but I had some REALLY nice raspberries from lidl the week...so 🤷‍♀️ Can't shop there all the time, but I like to try out different supermarkets. Strawberries are definitely nicer at the right time of year though x
