Müslüm Gürses was thought to have died as a result of a traffic accident and was put in the morgue and then it was recognized that he lived. He lost 50% of his hearing as a result of an accident. He sang all these beautiful works with difficulty in hearing. Rest in peace.

As you have mentioned this is an utterly different kind of music, compared to ones that you have listened; which were more of progressive works that have things similar to other country’s same genres. However, this is what we call arabesque. Think of it like blues, not in terms of the music but its background. This was popularized by people who came to big cities, such as Istanbul, from Eastern Anatolia. In that years, construction workers etc. was being instantly famous with one record. They are mostly about hardness of life, impossible loves (poor man -rich woman) and this music was causing many people in ghettos to suicide, people were going with razors to the concerts and were cutting their wrists, even if they do not intend to suicide. Now it is more wide spread, “White Turks” also have existential pains with them, secretly, but it still perceived by many as lower taste. This guy you have listened is one of the superstars of this culture Müslüm Baba(Father), a common way to show respect in arabesque culture. By the way, I understand why you thought there would be some oriental dancing etc. but it is an interesting contrast actually which is them using this sort of live motifs but it is all about suffering and no one even moves when listening it except some head moving left , right with blurry eyes.

Research their recent work. He has several albums in which he sang world classics.
