The spirit of 19th century Romanticism is alive in Lucas Arruda’s paintings, which are this week’s Collection Highlights. Arruda is a young Brazilian artist working in São Paulo, who paints landscape at a small and digestible scale. At once classical and contemporary, his subject matter reads as a less sublime extension of Caspar David Friedrich’s, perhaps due to scale, or to his use of pale, low intensity hues.
