As a young man in the states in his twenties that is not a Catholic I found this show extremely powerful. It had me laughing at some points, it had me frightful at some points. It made me extremely sad and it made me so moved with joy to the point of tears. It's a philosophical and cinematic masterpiece. The show dares to ask questions that no one else has the courage to ask. It goes far beyond the threshold of creativity.

@quirked504 Жыл бұрын
Some of these comments are strange to me. Part of Pius' conservative agenda is renouncing homosexuality, but the show seems to be pretty clear in its implicit commentary that Pius' attempts to exclude gay people was a moral failure on his part. The freedom to love isn't "petty" or "sentimental," and I don't know how anyone can square the belief that it is with the teachings of Christ or the message of this series. The show also seems to suggest that Pius' conservatism is only a small part of his nature, which the show again and again emphasizes is "contradictory." When Brannox becomes Pope John Paul III, he welcomes in outsiders and seems to define the church as the artifice of the misunderstood, and when Pius reemerges from his coma, he praises John Paul for doing this. This is an amazing show because it is so complex and multidimensional - it never spells out what it wants you to take away from it. But I feel like you have to ignore so much of the show to walk away with the message that "extreme" conservatism is what makes a righteous society.

While being smart may seem like the better choice, goodness will always make the largest influential impact on your own life as well as others lives, sometimes its better to not over think something and just do it for the sake of being helpful..

Some are. Pius X might tickle your fancy.

If you go back before Vatican II hijacked the church, there were popes similar to Pius XIII. The inspiration for Pius XIII seems to be heavily influenced by Pius IX and Pius X.

I'm not a native English speaker. What does the word "water problem" mean? I'm not sure that I get it.

Roark D Did you watch the whole episode? It’s a reference to her [Antonia] keeping the water away from people and using it to “blackmail” them. He’s giving her a little hint so she knows what he’s talking about.

to those who like the ideals of this pope, you are proving the show writers right! to not be accessible is to breed intrigue then desire then need. maybe the church needs to be closed off once again to those who truly wish to follow the teachings. im saying this as an old catholic, some one who doesn't follow these teachings.

To receive salvation, and be promised access to heaven, eternal life, and a perfect unity with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, it's actually pretty easy. The first thing you have to do is understand that you are a dirty depraved sinner, you don't deserve a single ounce of forgiveness, you don't deserve any grace, you only deserve hell for eternity. Then you have to believe that God sent His only begotten son on earth, because he loves us depraved sinners. You must believe that Jesus was God on earth, that He was both man and God. You must believe that He lived a perfect life, that every work He did was good and for God, that Jesus never sinned, He was perfect in every way. Then you must believe that Jesus was crucified, that He was punished terribly for crimes He didn't commit, and that He died. You must believe that He did all this to take YOUR place, to take the punishment you deserved so that you could take His place, and be as though you are perfect. You must believe that when He said 'It is finished' on the cross, that it truly was finished. The atonement for your sins was complete, through His perfect, loving sacrifice. Believe that He was risen from the dead, that he proclaimed His victory of death and sin, and that He ascended to heaven to be at the right hand of the Father. If you believe all that, it is promised you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit, you will be born again, you will receive the Holy Spirit, you will be adopted as a child of God, you will be imputed the righteousness of Christ, you will be justified, and you will receive eternal life. In short, if you look to the cross and Christ's bloody sacrifice as the only way you as a sinner can ever hope to gain entry to heaven, you are saved. Don't ask God into your life, He came down and died for YOU, and you specifically. So believe what I have told you today and you will be saved. One day you will hear 'Well done, good and faithful servant', once you have done this, go and get a bible King James Version if you have the option, read it, study it, pray to the Lord Jesus Christ, then you will see your life transformed in Christ, but always with the knowledge you look to His mighty works, His mighty sacrifice which saved you. God Bless

Three things, first, swap that King James Bible for a Douay-Rheims Bible, or a Latin Vulgate. Second, do you believe in once saved always saved? And third, why did you omit the step of getting baptized? We are not born again until we are baptized.
