Did you take it back? I’ve heard the fuel version is better (it’s bigger though so I’m still going to keep this one for really tight spaces). I imagine the M17 versions are more powerful, but probably even bigger than the m12 fuel version. Let me know what you get instead.

Yeah, exactly. I hadn’t thought about the blade being able to clear the wood chips, but maybe that’s why people complain about it. When I put on a blade to match the task, it did a great job for me. I was pretty impressed.

Yeah, exactly. These are great for right spots and when you need to hold the piece you’re cutting with one hand. If you’re looking for something specifically for pruning, you might want to check out the M12 Hatchet. I did a video on that too if you’re interested. I love mine. It’s not as versatile as this hakzall, but it’s great for pruning. I think these hakzalls are good for smaller cuts, and awkward places like tight spaces and overhead cuts. Let me know how you like it.

Rob...you mean two? 🤦‍♀️ I started out with just the regular M12 because that is all Home Depot had at the moment and I wanted to trim right away. I loved the idea that it was super light , but it only came with a 1.5 battery. It created too much vibration for me, I had a decent blade on it, a Milwaukee one designed for wood, but I ended up deciding to go with the 18 fuel because I thought I might be more happy with it in the long run! My thoughts were exact that as yesterday I was out there trimming much thicker tree branches with hardly a drop of vibration! I used the same blade I had on the 12. The fuel 18 came stock with a 5.0 battery so I guess it needed the extra power as well,(for me anyway)! Yes it's quite a bit heavier than the other one but if I can get the work done so much faster and easier without all that vibration I can handle the extra weight of the tool! Thanks for asking!

Oh, got ya. Sorry, I was thinking you commented on the m12 hatchet video for some reason, that’s why I mentioned bar and chain oil in the last comment. Sorry about that. Cool, yeah, I don’t have the M18 version, but I got the regular M12 for its size and weight, but when the M12 fuel came up on sale for a good price, I thought the extra power might come in handy sometime. I do have a full size recip, but as you know, there are some situations where having something you can use with one hand can come in really handy. Sounds like you really like the M18 version. Very cool.

lol, facts! Yeah, the title and premise was mostly in response to videos I had seen. In one video Jeffostroff said it couldn’t cut through butter. So, I wanted to make a video testing it. It even cut through old metal drain pipe. It shook a lot, but it worked. I like Jeff and his channel, but I don’t know why he had such a bad experience with it.

Yeah, for sure! I learned my lesson with the cheap Harbor Freight blades.

Yeah, true. I have used it on heavy stuff to see how well it does, but I wouldn’t recommend to others using it for old galvanized or cast iron pipe. It kept going like a trooper though. lol. It’s a cool little tool.

Sure did! I had to. The bar and chain oil from the chainsaw didn’t taste good on the cake. 🤣

Next time use some canola/sunflower as your b&c oil and it might taste better! ...In fact, maybe try exclusively using veg oil as your b&c oil, as I hear it works well and is certainly better for the environment -not to mention cheaper.-

Seems best to get the Fuel if buying stand alone......but they only include the non-Fuel version in their $200 5-tool kit that I'm _so close_ to certainly getting, so I hope the OG Hackzall is still a good tool.

Yes you are correct but think about real life situations where you can't make full contact with the shoe to the material. He's not in that sitaution but sometimes the blade or material bind and jerk the tool around

That sucks. I wonder if they have some lemons coming off their lines, because that sounds like the experience Jeff Ostroff had with his. The blades I had were new from that Milwaukee case that might be visible in parts of the video, so maybe the fact that they were new helped. I’ll have to try mine with branches. It wasn’t fun cutting through that 2X4, it really shakes your arm I was really feeling it in my wrist. I ended up buying the fuel vHackzall too when that was on sale, and I haven’t cut anything with it, but it’s weird, because it seems to have less vibration when just pulling the trigger, but not cutting anything compared to the one in the video. I noticed looking at my footage that I didn’t always have the shoe right up against the piece I was cutting, and that did helps when I remembered to do that. Maybe it’s just better for metal and plastic than it is for wood. Have you tried cutting anything besides the branches? If so, how did it do?

Same but understandable. I have the m18 non fuel and bought this m12 version for the size. Went to cut notches in 2x4 and it did struggle but I only had a small battery on it. Its a smaller tool with very short stroke. Use the bigger batteries and nice sharp blades for best possible outcome. I use mine to do small quick jobs like cutting holes in OSB or cutting some pipe etc etc. Its super light and my m18 hackzall can get heavy after a 10-12 hr shift

Hey Gerard, good catch again. That’s up to you. As far as I’m concerned, if you want it, you won fair and square, but if you want, we can wait to see if anyone else catches it. Yup, I sure am wearing it. I like it a lot. You almost have to put keys or phone or something in the front pocket, because the weight of the battery pulls it backwards a little, but otherwise, I really like it.

Yeah, hopefully you don’t have to do anything overhead with that thing. Even just cutting a pipe with the m12 above your head makes my arm tired. lol.

Yeah, exactly. I did find out that it can get stuff done in a pinch that I would normally choose something more powerful for. I think it was after this video, but it cut though some old 1 1/2 galvanized pipe. It was a tight spot, so this thing came in handy.

That’s what Jeffostroff said in his video. I think it really depends on what you’re looking to cut. It got the job done for me in some tight spaces, but it would definitely be nicer if it was more powerful.
