M1888/90 "A" Grade from Royal Tiger Imports - Same as "B" Grade?

I ordered a Mannlicher 1888/90 antique rifle from Royal Tiger Imports in their regular grade condition. I unbox it and show the condition of this example. These are supposed to be better than their B Grade rifles listed on the RTI website, but I'm not certain if this example is actually any better than most "B" grades. RTI is a good place to pick up some military surplus rifles, but how does reality match up with their description?
This is chambered in 8x50R and is legally an antique in US gun law, so it was easy to procure. This is the second 1888 rifle I have purchased, and both of them have not really lived up to their respective grades.

That cut out was for the upper hand guard which was installed during the Great War most those that went to Bulgaria

I bought a B grade about a year ago at $200 bucks. Lots of surface rust all over it, so I put it in some rust remover and it cleaned up well. Only thing it was missing was the safety and safety screw. Happy with it because the bore on it is very good for its age.

Yeah. I also got an A grade on Easter too. It is pretty good and no cracks too. The bore has rifling and 8x56mmR (even though it supposed to be 8x50mmR) wasn't swallowed up. Better than the B grade I got from RTI which was missing safety lever, rear sight leaf (can't raise it up) and broken firing pin. The bore is the only redeeming part so I bought the parts needed to get it good.

strange that it was converted to 8x56r when the rest of the Ethiopia guns seem to be in the original 8x50r... Did it have the S mark on the barrel shank to indicate the rechamber?

It isn't. It is 8x50mmR rifle. Just that there isn't a huge difference in bullet diameter between 8x50mmR and 8x56mmR. I used 8x56mmR to test if the muzzle isn't worn out as a method to see if it won't keyhole or not. But the rifle does need 8x50mmR to be able to fire.

@@tomc6255 Copy, so as far as I know the two rounds use the EXACT same bore diameter so using that 8x56R bullet (0.323") to check for gross crown wear will work as expected. As far as I understand it the conversion left the same barrel on the gun, they just used a reamer to cut the chamber deeper. Both calibers like 0.329-0.330" flat based bullets much better in general as the 0.323 projectiles originally used had a convex base so that they would upset or expand into the rifling.

Parts missing constitutes B Grade, I think.. What is "turn in" condition? Lol, I wish RTI would be more informative on grades. I've been pleased in my purchases from them.

Overall, I've been pleased. Their grades have a pretty wide range though, for sure.

@GearyGunderson Same. Customer Service has been prompt and righteous for me too. I think they have become a better company than the years before.
