In most WWII Airborne divisions they had 3 Airborne Infantry regiments and 1 Glider Infantry regiment. The Glider Infantry units had regular M1 carbines while the Paratroopers were issued M1A1s. The only Airborne division that had more M1A1s were the 82nd Airborne in the Holland invasion which they had the 507th PIR and 508th PIR added to the division from the Normandy invasion. The 504th PIR rejoined the division by then making it 4 regiments with the 505th PIR as the original base infantry regiment. The Glider Infantry regiments are configured to a standard US Infantry regiment therefore they didn't have the special carbine that Paratroopers carried into combat. Later many of the M1A1s would also serve with the French Foreign Legion Paratroopers in Indochina as Lend Lease by the US to fight the Communist Vietnamese.

I have my fathers Inland M1A1 Paratrooper carbine. I have a very sentimental attachment to this knowing he carried it with him while piloting his Corsair during WWII and the Korean war. I am in the process of locating 2 missing parts that my late brother incredibly took off to attempt to modernize it ( I know, I can't believe it either) I am looking for an exact replacement hand guard, and front and rear site

Still have my grandfather’s M1a1 from ww2 she is my pride and joy. He said it was light accurate and fast shooing and yes it actually did pack a pretty big punch the bullet went in when German playing pin ball with organs his insides and having no clue where exit wound the tons of-from the scrapnel to and the German died instantly dropped in iot secs out of st mere.eclipse this was at Sait-mere-eglise he was in the 82 air borne the whole war. The pics and memorabilia I have are absolutely amazing and priceless to me. 3 favorites are the German potato masher, the nazi flag with the Swastica and the Walther ppk 38 and then runner up a propaganda poster of asshole hitler himself he found wile clear what must have been a SS mans house.

Depending on the condition and the receiver- because they made two kinds of receivers that means a lot in the price..💰 as long as it's the real deal that was built in Michigan at two different plants should have markings on it "IT"Or "ST"..Made for World War II..1942 till 1945 in the 50s and the 60s they started to DeMille them but they still use them in the Korean War and even Vietnam and It has all the original markings they should range between $800 up to $2,000...Tops.. that's what I know before the video even started maybe I'm right and maybe I'm wrong in some things that why I'm watching this cause every video will get me more educated on both rifles... I have two of them from World War II from my Dad and my Uncle they were both handed down to me they are both flip sights with an "S" on the side that's another great identification mark to look for..On the M1..if you have that flip sight...!!

you did good. I bought mine at a family auction .I paid $1600 for the M1A1
@melbourne-heat.69-714 жыл бұрын
In the 70s and 80s they made replicas of the M1 carbine they looked exactly like the ones from World War II most of them look so real you would have to take it apart and look at the receiver they look that Real..and they're still selling them between $350 to $450.. the best knockoffs I ever saw and some people even try to age them to make it look like it fought in World War II... the one that you pulled out I saw them before but you need to start looking online or at some of the local gun shows and you would be surprised that you cannot tell the difference they look that good... So watch what you buy if the price is too low most likely it's a knockoff....🔬🔎🔍🔬💰💸🔫🔫🔫 Plus some people even try to sell M1 carbines that were already Demilled they cut the receiver in half for scrap metal and people would weld them back together so you need to take it apart and see if there is a weldmark then they grind them down if you see a fine line down the middle of the receiver most likely that rifle will never fire...!!!

Why does your "original" M1A1 have retrofitted sights and safety?
@MarksmanTV6 жыл бұрын
Galactic Overlord it was explained in the video. This was made in the last serial block of M1A1 carbines, when they would have been fitted with type 2 sights, and type 2 barrel bands. Bruce Canfield’s book on the M1 Garand and Carbine is a resource you should consider.

I'm not very knowledgable about rifles so forgive a possibly dumb question: why do the rifles shown weigh about the same thing-- 6 pounds according to the video? you would think that the metal stock would weigh less than the heavy wood stock.
@porschetiger4163 жыл бұрын
Most likely because the metal stock has parts that are semi-equal to the weight of the wood stock..... or maybe the wood stock is light wood it’s the lightest WW2 rifle I’m interested in m1 is 9 gew 98 and kar98k are 9 most rifles from the world semi or single are around 9lbs even the type 99

I just want to say that people are talking about the M1 carbine if it is good for Home defense, well people forgot that it was used in the Battlegrounds from the day it was conceived and up to these days in the jungles of South East Asia. Please stop talking about the capability of this fine gun if it is effective as a home defense firearm coz it is Moronic! That's my IMO, anyone can ignore that.
@BobbaFettish2 жыл бұрын
sorry to bring this up on an old video. some of the stuff you're bringing up isn't accurate. the 6mil S/N started in mid 1944, not late 44, as did the use of type 2/3 rear sights and type 2 barrel bands. as for the M1a1 being entirely made by inland, with exertion to the stock, not accurate either, while inland made all of the original M1a1s, several contractors still made the parts for inland. while you have a very nice example of a m1a1, I don't believe the safety is original, rotary safeties started appearing about same time type 3 barrel bands did in February or march of 1945.
@im1carbine3582 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the samething. My inland was made in july of 1944 and serial number is 6xx,xxx. I really wanted to find try and find an 1943 inland paratrooper but when ever i find people selling one they want 3000$ to 4000$ for it and that out of my budget range. Im willing to pay no more than 2000$ for an M1a1 paratrooper
@BobbaFettish2 жыл бұрын
@@im1carbine358 base on M1a1s over the past several years has been 3000+. I have sold 2 complete rearsenal M1a1s in the last year for 3250 and 3400 and one original 1943 for 5500
@im1carbine358 Жыл бұрын
@@BobbaFettishthe paratrooper m1a1 carbine serial number has to be below 45xxx because the first 70,000 M1a1 paratrooper where made in 1942 with s/n 5xxx and the second batch of 70,000 where made in 1943 with s/n 4×××× Base on google search and the m1 carbine guile book if your serial number is 5xxxx or 6xxxx up than it's probably manunfactor around mid to late 1944. Which mean its not a original m1a1. Probably someone down the road put a original paratrooper stock on that m1 carbine.
@im1carbine358 Жыл бұрын
@@BobbaFettish plus early m1a1 paratrooper are flate bolt, with no bayonet lug on the barrel. They also got the push safety button instead of a swing flicker safety and also the flip rear sight along with type1 barrel bend. They said the bayonet lug where toward the ending of the war in 1945 and also korea war/vietnam is when alot of m1 carbine has type3 bayonet lug barrel bend install.
@BobbaFettish Жыл бұрын
@@im1carbine358 I can’t remember the S/N ranges off hand, but the first batch of 70k were pulled randomly during 1942-43 the second batch of 70k was pulled 44-45. All of the first batch should have push safeties, flat bolts, flip sights, ext… the second batch was mixed of early features into transitional, and even late features.

Both pronunciations are technically correct. The "carbean" pronunciation is more correct because of the word's French roots. Maybe get educated before you try to harass people on their grammar.
