A reminder that Russia's 1st Guards Tank Army, especially its 4th Guards Tank Division, hasn't been seen in action. The 1GTA was the most famous and best equipped soviet/Russian tank unit, 'protector of Moscow'. Trolls vigorously asserted that the 1GTA hadn't been largely destroyed in the first three weeks of the invasion, and was finished off in the failed rescue of Izium/Lyman. We were told, paraphrased, that it was merely shagged out after a long squawk.

The reason I ask is because it would be humorous to me if someone were to say they that they are the best equipped unit and also that they havnt been in combat yet because that implies russia wouldn't be sending it's supplies to those actually needing them but to what essentially would be a reserve guard force.

Then, completely ignoring the fact one was a street mutt, one a poodle and one a chihuahua saying you had a same guard dog since 1942. Also, that chihuahua basically got wiped out by Ukrainians back in '22. The "trolls" he talks of is Ukrainian MoD’s Main Intelligence Directorate. Besides bringing receipts on the dead Russian officers, with name, rank and position to prove that, Ukrainians also took tanks - "destroyed and seized 308 units of military equipment from the said army". But have no fear - the ranks of the chihuahua tanks have been replenished by fresh fruits of green recruits. The parade army marches again.

@@jonathanpfeffer3716 I was thinking about the link-16 counter-battery radars, and how valuable they are against low-level drones and cruise missiles. I know Ukraine gets early warning when bombers take off with cruise missiles, and near the front line these radars can hand off tracks to NASAMS, Patriot, IRIS-T, etc. They significantly improve the radar horizon of air defense farther back. Air defense can get firing data before their own radars can even see the target. I know multiple European countries (and the USA) donated dozens of counter-battery radars, and they really help with the intercept rate.

Only one TOW missile can be fired at a time. That's because it's a SACLOS system - the operator has to keep the crosshairs on the target - and the wires are what carry the steering signals. It also takes over a second from firing to the missile starting moving ("first synthetic motion"). That's the time required for things like the battery squibs to fire and the gyroscopes to run up. The time between the two explosions is simply too short. I used to maintain the system on Lynx helicopters.

Damn, first we had Bradleys knocking out T-90 optics with their autocannons; now we're seeing them slamming T-80s with their TOW missiles. LOL maybe Russia should just get out of the tank game- obsolete IFVs are wrecking their best MBTs

One thing I first noticed was the birds tweeting in the background where you usually record. I don't know if you keep them, live next to a park, or just a large tree.
