If you're thinking about getting the m2 pro Mac mini, and you're a music producer, video editor or content creator, then this video is for you! I've been using the m2 pro Mac mini for 6 months, and in this video I highlight what I've learned, and why I believe it's the best desktop I've ever owned.

This is the exact video I was looking for! I’m trying to switch from a windows pc to a Mac mini pro mostly for traveling but I do music production and hate that I can’t travel with my bulky pc😂 and I would get a MacBook but I hate using a touch pad and a small screen

awesome video in every aspect. i would just like to know how your memory usage and pressure is during heavy music production do you use swap memory or not ? taken in consideration that you have 16 gbs available that are utilized also by the gpu .

No swap memory (that I know of).

Great Video! Is the 512ssd slow in writing and reading speed compared to the 1TB ssd?

No, to my knowledge, only the 256 uses the slower SSD drives. The 512 and on is good, but I would advise checking google to make sure.

I have an older imac but when it comes to bigger projects in logic i will always have to work things around and now im thinking about upgrading, can you somehow connect the mac mini to an i mac and use them both ?

I am glad it has worked out for you. So did you already own the Macbook M1 Max or did you buy it and then exchange it for the Pro Mini? Not sure why you would switch out a clearly higher end Mac. For me having double the RAM is a must. Now if you had bought the Macbook and then decided to save the money and exchange it by the exchange date I can understand saving the money as the Mini Pro is clearly plenty. It's just if you already owned the Macbook for some time. Unless the Macbook battery was getting old or you really really wanted a desktop instead of a laptop like in my case. I had the Mac Mini Pro I got for $1300, but I think it was a defected unit as it screen flickered and then the device would reboot for no reason, very odd. So I was able to get the Mac Studio on sale for $1800, $500 more. I went with it. But yes the Mini Pro was awesome when it worked.

I sold the MacBook Pro for twice the price that it cost me the get the Mac mini, so I saved money in the process. Plus, I’m not forced to work in my office, which is a nice bonus.

You have the base model with 8GB RAM? Can you say something about the RAM consumption for your projects? It has often been confirmed that the performance of the M2 is super, but the RAM is where the biggest questions arise. Especially when producing music with sample-based instruments such as Omnisphere or Kontakt Libraries?

8gb is not enough. Neither is 256gb. But I’d not advocate buying the upgrades either. You can pick up NVMe gen 4 for peanuts now, you can also get 32gb ram for about £100. Apple are stingy now. My 2007 iMac had bays for ram upgrades and a screen that was magnetic for easy maintenance and upgrades. Apple now solders it all. No upgrades no maintenance if needed. Meanwhile my gaming pc.. I just remove the glass panel..

For the same amount of money as a Mac Mini, you can build a much more powerful computer. For gaming, I'd recommend doing this; for music production, not so much. I've got a pretty decent gaming PC which has the most annoying DPC latency issues, causing audio dropouts, pops, and cracks. Additionally, there are processor spikes and corruption of projects. This is just the nature of Windows and its drivers, yet Apple products rarely have these issues. I'm thinking of picking up a Mac Mini M2 pro with 16gb ram, 512gb ssd and adding a terabyte of ssd in a docking station, just for music production.

highly doubt this is useful for you, i'm sure he has the library on an external drive, so not a benchmark that would have any use to you.
