The best laptop in the market just got better! After my limited testing of the M2 MacBook Pro, you can say that I am impressed! I can’t believe it can pretty much do most of what my 16” M1 Max can do. The CPU performance was impressive, GPU is scales reasonably and the quality of life improvements are nice to have! This $2499 14" MBP configuration is definitely the sweet spot!

Bro, is the 12/19 cores version loud in every day use? and what about the battery life when using it for simple tasks? ive got the base model of m2 pro, and its deadly silent, but I will have to upgrade to faster 1tb of ssd due to the fact that I am going into swap memory sometimes when using blender, i can replace my mac with 1tb ssd and 12/19 cores version which would be helpful, but ive heard that battery is weaker, and its pretty loud. What do you think ? thanks

Hey Jon, great video! Appreciate the great editing and infos. One question; I see that you got the 14" model over 16. Is there any reason that you choose 14 over 16? I've been using 13-14" macs and wonder if 16 would be good to try. I travel a lot tho. Let me know how it went for you. :) Appreciate already!

Screen, speakers, power and battery life are 👌🏾. But if you travel a lot or work plugged into an external monitor, the 14” might be more appealing. Do you work on the plane? When you travel, how do you work? I’m considering switching to 14” because I work plugged in when I’m on my desk and when I’m away, I want to have a more portable device.

Great video man. Very thoughtful and everything else. I'm a photographer and I edit videos and photos. Basically, I'm trying to figure out which one would be best to own? And size wise also. I'm making a big upgrade cuz I currently have a 2012 Mac and not able to do much on it. Also, when it comes to the ram, what would be a good amount to have on it?

That’s awesome! You will love it. I think if you can get 32gb, you should do it. I think it’s one of the most important upgrades you can make. You can always get more storage using an external SSD but you can’t make RAM upgrades later.

I tried to make do with 16gb RAM, but hitting that RAM warning area made the computer bottom out so much I just got frustrated. For my use, 32gb works so muc more smoothly.

Thanks for this video its really amazing, but I'm confused between m1 max 16inch and m2 pro 16inch , I mainly work on 3d softwares and graphic editors like Photoshop, blender, Spark AR, lens studio etc so can u please suggest which one to buy on june 2023?

The M2 Pro's 12 core CPU will be much faster for photography/imaging workflows, will have cooler thermals, and longer battery life - whereas the M1 Max's additional GPU cores will be much more suited for computing 3D graphics as well as having double the write speed over the M2 Pro (400 vs 200). Either way, you should be fine with either machine, as they are both beasts. But be sure to purchase a unit with at least 32 GB of RAM, and at least 1 TB SSD.

@@CC86CA Your comment is very helpful, I'm quite confused too even after watching the video, I'm looking for first MBP mainly for graphic design work and video editing, so are those more 2 CPU cores in the M2 pro are going to make a difference? And would I need more CPU or more GPU for that matter?

@@merrh8819 for graphic design and video workflows, a refurbished M1 Max with 24 or 32 GPU cores will work out fine. And the 10-core CPU in that machine is plenty powerful. No need to spend the extra for a M2 Max unless you are running multiple high memory intensive/CPU intensive programs like rendering software in addition to your typical graphic and video workflows.

great comparison for sure, but I'm still confused as for I should get the m1 max 16" 32/1Tb or the m2 pro 16" 16/1Tb or probably the M2 Max! this is not an upgrade but my first MBP that I hope I'll keep for years ahead and I'll be using it as a desktop replacement, do everything on it from graphic design, video editing and everything in between. Any help is appreciated.

I am enjoying it! There is a bit of sacrifice with battery, cooling and screen real estate, but I found myself working more away from my desk… I still have my 16” but I might sell it and lessen the amount of devices I have 😂.

Your content is shot very beautifully! I was on here just curious how the newer m2 stacks up against the older m1 max. I bought a 16" M1 Max 32 core with 64gb ram last year. I generally get 6-8yrs out of my machines before I upgrade so I typically almost max them out. Probably overkill for sure. Not long after purchasing mine the M2's came out so I was wondering if I had made a mistake. Doing a photo job with a friend out of state editing on my machine next to his 16" M2 pro, I was pleased to see we couldn't really see any difference. They both struggled with the same things in Lightroom but both did a very good job. One thing I feel like you didn't touch on here is just how good t these screens are! The contrast ratio and colors of the screens on these newer generation MacBook pros is amazing. Not to mention some impressive speakers!

Good, balanced review and comparison. Having watched quite a few youtube videos highlighting comparison and or putting out raw numbers, your video claims were grounded and honest. Personally went with the M1 Max 16 which are dropping in price as they are phased out and some great deals can be had. 32 core Gpu, 64gb of Ram, 2tb harddrive in a 16inch M1 Max brand new for $2,600.00 at Micro Center (Still had the $4,299.00 price tag on the outer box). For that price, I went with the M1 Max. These sort of deals are drying up quickly with the last of stock so for someone with a sub $3,000.00 budget, this would be the way to go.

Yep, I agree, these deals are drying up quickly. I'm on the market for a new macbook here in France, have been looking for the past few days and its becoming harder and harder to find a M1 Max, but I did finally find a brand new destock 16" M1 Max 10/32 with 64GB of RAM and 1To SSD for 2990€... so I guess its the way to go, rather than an M2 Pro with 32GB :)

The size is definitely dependent on you as a user. 14” for portability. 16” for maximum performance, bigger screen. I would honestly go for M1 Max! You can probably find better deals on it. 😊

So I got my mbp 14in m1 for 1100$ but base model but the low SSD is making me contemplate to trade in for the same specced mb m2 14in you have only for 1500$ or just try to resell mine for 1500$ locally to upgrade what do you think and if it’s worth the upgrade ? Do you think the battery life is genuinely better?

Tough call. I think upgrading over the battery life is not enough but if you are wanting more storage and would welcome the extra power, then maybe you can argue the upgrade. Which configuration with you upgrade to?

So after the video I still can’t decide wich MacBook should be my next. The 16“ M1 Max 32gb or the 16“ M2 Pro with 16gb. I edit mostly photos in Lightroom and sometimes short videos nothing Special in Davinci (slog3 10bit + lut and go). 😅

I now have the M2 Max. It’s great but it does run hot, but not too bad. I have had very few issues with my 30c version. I would go for the 24c M1 Max refurbished especially since it’s cheaper. 😂

@@georgelopez9517 As far as video editing is concerned the M1 Max and the M2 Max have the same video encoder/decoder setup so the export time for both is the same. Making the M1 Max a better value.

@@JonImperial honestly I probably won’t be doing anything super heavy duty (yet), I do have hopes to eventually get into video editing again but currently nothing that would probably require all 32gb RAM. I think I just feel like I might regret passing up such a killer discount on the 16 inch since it retailed for $3500 originally. Micro center had a flash sale on it for the $1k discount. And I am afraid I’ll get the m2 pro and then a year or two from now I’ll start using it for more heavy duty stuff and will regret not having the processing power… I just keep going back and forth like a crazy person and can’t make up my mind! 😂

@@JonImperial my other concern I forgot to mention in my previous reply is I really can’t decide whether the 16 would feel too cumbersome and large. I kinda like the form factor of the 14… but I also almost always use my laptop at home and I have a smaller windows computer for work. So any time I’m on the road and working it’s usually on the work laptop. First world problems. 😩

@@Hamid-ee6fx I kept the 16 inch and I do really like it, but I find myself not using it as much because of the size and bulk tbh. If I could redo it, I’d probably go with the 14 just because the form factor is more convenient for on-the-go. If you don’t have an external monitor though I’d go with the 16” because the screen really is beautiful.

I was thoroughly impressed with this video, and it got me thinking about upgrading my own setup. While I may not be a graphics designer or avid gamer, I'm still leaning towards the M2 Pro with its powerful 12/19-core processor and ample 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. But even the base model M2 Pro with 10/16-cores packs a punch and is certainly no slouch. Ultimately, my goal is to future-proof my setup as much as possible. If you're in the market for a new computer, take my advice and don't skimp on the RAM - 32GB is the way to go. Just like how we all thought 8GB would suffice, but 16GB was really the sweet spot, now 32GB is what you should aim for to stay ahead of the curve.

If your planning to travel frequently, 14" is the best option. Because 16" is quite big and heavy for traveling

but if you travel a lot that means you can only use internal display, and boy 16 inch is way better. Screen and battery life is a deal breaker for a lot of people

@@dmitrylaktionov have you tried traveling with 16 inches? Cause I'm speaking on behalf of my experience, i never tried 16 inches. And based on the feedback of those who experience already. ( i couldn't imagine also doing some laptop thing with a 16 inches on Economy Class trip 😁)

That's your opinion. Here in the US, that's not the case. Especially if you try to get it refurbished. Retailers were discounting the M1 MBPs. Also, the point was to compare the difference in performance for both. "How close is the M2 Pro to the M1 Max?"
