it still sounds like its a really fun street car. I just traded in my 2019 STI for a 2021 STI, got an offer I couldn't refuse. I eventually will be performing mods for the power train and I am aware the RA blocks are more stout. It all comes down to the tune. Also, the way I look at it, the STI is a totally different experience compared to the M2 or RS3. Even with the money you put into it, it still isnt the same cost as one of them and you're probably keeping up or beating them in a race.

& around a track at equal power levels unless you run into an M2 comp or CS * 💀 I had an R & was saving for an RS3 till the prices went parabolic. Didn't know about the understeer issue they had till after. MQB chasis cars are fun but everything about the STI just feels right. The confidence that the car is going where you point that wheel regardless of the surface is what won me over.

Just about done with my build. Picked up an 06 STI with a blown motor, threw in a stage 2 iag short block, blouche 3.0 xtr dominator, flex fuel kit, fuel pressure regulator, 3 inch turbo back exhaust with cats and resonator, catless up pipe, ID 1050s, spearco 4inch tmic, Cobb turbo inlet and cold air intake, and a few other little things. Went and got it tuned, ended up needing a bigger fuel pump to run e85 and more boost. So I'm on a low boost tune at 16lbs pushing 340 to the wheels. Once I get the fuel pump in and we can run more boost and e85 I should be around 450. It's a long process but totally worth it 🤘 I love your car btw, super clean. Great video.

1050s are way too small for E85 you need at least 1300s.

@blainetrimbach487 8 ай бұрын
@@thedon9670 I actually ended up using the 1050s and have 453 whp. I wish I could go back and use the 1300s and still have the flex fuel ability with my Cobb accessport but unfortunately they took that away for my model year on the Cobb flex kit.

It’s because he had a shop do most of the work and it’s a 2017. My 2020 pulled 306/332 on a dyno tune with just a grimmspeed drop in filter. He also has a lot more head room with the parts he put in he just didn’t go super aggressive.

That's what's holding me back from getting an sti right now. Not sure flat 4 rumble is enough to justify how much it would cost to make power reliabily with these things.

Awesome man! I love how you always go for the highest quality parts possible. So many people seem to cheap out to save a few hundred bucks, and then they complain when they have a header with holes melted in it after a few years. I’d rather save longer and buy quality. Anyway, can’t wait for those sound comparison clips!

Heard that injectors and fuel ⛽️ pump were limiting components. Did not know the OEM glass ceiling though. So assuming 15% losses OEM WHP is roughly 260 and torque 247 ft lbs. In round numbers your STI jumped to 340, a 80 WHP gain and 350 ft lbs a 103 ft lbs gain. Very respectable and easily felt by the “butt dyno” and initiated at lower revs, 3300 rpm, approaching DIT FA 20 territory. Happy “spirited” 🏎💨 but legal motoring.

greeting from germany! i got my 2016 sti engine recently built for about 450Hp. pistons and all the stuff you need to make it not blow up at that power. (costs about 15k€) had to send the engine to a engine builder specialist for that. then my local shop f‘ed up the engine install (failed to correcly bleed the water cooling system) and cooked my poor engine to death! the engine only had 51.000km on it. fortunately they completely paid for the new engine. dont know if you heard of them but now i have a stage 1 block from subiperformance :) should be pretty reliable with that. looking forward for the tune it will be receiving soon! had to break in the new engine obviously… good luck with yours, may it run strong and long!

that is a very high $ per HP ratio, but i totally get it being a subaru fanboy myself. i have had several and currently own my 2019 sti (stage2). but like this guy says, he got the very good parts, from what he says is a great installer, but that being said it looks AWESOME! i would say you could make the power he is making for about 5k between he fueling system, intake, and tuning tools and exhaust mods. you could forego the headers, the intercooler, bpv and the high end CF bits. you could reach this level of performance for like 4K-5k assuming you can install all your own stuff. but like i said, he did this for reliability, and he has some seriously great stuff. i love the build. looks super good my man!

thank you for the explanation, I have a 17 STI, I plan to go cobb downpipe with a AWE exhaust for straight up stage II, no mods to the intake or intercooler. Good to know that a stage III will be the only way to bolt on the intake. I went with stage II turbo back exhaust because it would put me at a sweet spot for power without having to jump into fuel upgrades.

Congrats - watching your videos in order. I'm shopping around for a 2021 STI at the moment. I also prefer reliability and fun daily driving over numbers. I like your point about having the turbo kick in sooner for daily driving (I have 2 kids, lots of driving around the city). My goal will eventually be 400 HP conservatively and reliably if that's even possible with an 2021. I'll have to do a lot of research and will enjoy the journey. I was disappointed when I found out that Lapis blue was no longer a color option for the 2021 STI - I may have to go magnetite grey. Keep up the great content - always great to watch.

You could mimic this for like $10k but the likely hood of sending a cylinder to the moon increases by about 40-50% My 2019 FA20 is currently sitting @ 344WHP on Pump and 413WHP on E60 but I also upgraded my Turbo at 19PSI, Intake Manifold, Front Mount over Top Mount, Coilovers, Seay Bars, Radiator etc. Mine is such an amazing car and I love everything about it, but parts and labor total is around $21k 🥹

when i got my 2019 STI i got it from the first owner. he had it somewhere between stage 2 and stage 3. and this guy is not lying about stock injectors with a turbo inlet and downpipe. before i upgraded my injectors i would see 100-105% injector duty cycle when WOT. you can do it. but it is not safe. if your at 100% injector duty and you encounter a lean condition the ecu has nothing it can do, there is no more fuel to give. then BAM blown up EJ

I'm a first time subaru owner, 2019 STI. Its still under warranty so I'm keeping it stock for now. My experience has been perfect for the past 10k km but that 350 or 400 hp number seems high. I hear a lot about people who blow the motors on these cars sometimes at stock or other times at a pretty tame stage. I baby my car for the first 20-30 minutes its running etc. etc. all the things you're supposed to do to treat the car as best as possible so can you really daily a STI pushing 300+ at the wheels? I put sometimes as much as 2000km on my car each month, and obviously not every moment of that time is spent ripping on it, lots of highway mileage but I definitely have my fun with it. I LOVE my STI but I can really tell its missing some guts just being stock, I've seen people get their minds blown from just an intake and a tune. I guess my question is if I'm a responsible driver who keeps up on their maintenance, lets their car warm up etc. how big of a risk am I running if I decide to get performance mods for my car?

These are all very quality but also very expensive. I think on MAPs website you can get a Grimmspeed stage 3 package for $1800. That includes the TMIC, DP, intake and 3-port ebcs. I pieced a similar build, give or take a few pieces and I came to around $9000 for parts labor and tuning. It's very expensive, I came from an Evo X and for $10k I was able to do a custom EFR turbo kit and all the supporting bolt on mods plus a few suspension mods

Definitely takes some serious pennies to modify an STI properly. Lots of other platforms (such as evo’s) that can give you a much better bang for the buck. Although, this is the fun in it. This is exactly what i was looking for. I just took delivery of my '21 limited 3 weeks ago and have been looking for something like this ever since. I don't want a ton of power - just a bit more without being unreliable. Not going to pull the trigger on performance mods until the warranty is out, but until then what would you recommend? I've been looking at cat-back exhausts (invidia Q300 has been my pick so far) - i've had screaming straight piped V8's for the last 6 years. kind of done with the screaming cars. The other mod I've looked at is the subispeed limited hood with the heat extractors cut out of it. I love the carbon intake - that might be the first thing i buy with how badass it looks!
@Scoobyfreak86
@Scoobyfreak86 3 жыл бұрын
Congrats! Suspension and a simple catback will change the outlook on this car. It doesn’t need much to really turn it into a really fun backroad carver. Intake will require a tune, so you’ll want to stay away from that if you are worried about warranty. Plenty of cosmetic stuff out there that will keep you busy. Enjoy your ownership!

Hey question man. I commented on your last video and love the car, really happy for you. My question is this: I have a 21 WRX (not STI). I have I guess Stage 1+? My mods are ETS intake (w/box), Grimspeed EBCS, IBR full TGV/EGR deletes, and an etune by a legit tuner. The car is absolutely perfect for me, I too am going for reliability over numbers, I think the TGV/EGR deletes really help contribute to a healthy engine. You said you can’t go J-Pipe without pushing injectors? Are my injections at their limit on Stage1+? Is Stage 2+ a waste? Considering a Jpipe and TMIC (Grimspeed). Thanks
