I can 100% relate to body shops not getting the colour right. I had one such experience with a body shop. I sent my girlfriend to deal with them as she's better at this kind of stuff than I am and a few days later it was properly matched. Guess she scared them good! Also, that 1 dislike must be the employee of the body shop that did the initial respray. :D

THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DO PAINT AND BODYWORK!!!! :) I know you've said it isn't your groove, but I think you'd be surprised at how fast you pick it up and how much you end up enjoying it. And, with your perfectionist streak, you will be so much happier with the results. And, think of how much more content you'll be able to provide us with when you get to add doing the bodywork, prep, and then paint!!!!

The smell of paint and the products will kill ya. Body shops have high cancer rates too. But I agree with you, he would paint like a Rembrandt. Perfectionist!
@mbrock5532
@mbrock5532 3 жыл бұрын
@@petepenn1 Yeah, but respirators and ventilation solves a lot of that. Plus, a lot of the paint and supplies now are water based rather than solvent base, so it isn't nearly as hard as it used to be. My brother did auto body back in the '80s and his lungs suffered. Sanding with no respirators, etc. I can only imagine the amazing work Sreten would turn out.
@gytucci
@gytucci 3 жыл бұрын
the quality wont be that good, as you paint outside because of dust and bugs. Painting inside also dust everywhere, and from painting all garage would be covered by dust from paint and varnish. Not a good idea. For preparing to paint, not so bad idea if you get discount from painters. Puting primer doesnt matter that much you can fix it easily while sanding. P.S. Painters didn't prepared the bumpers good. They had to spray special compound on open plastic spaces to get it to stick. But overall paint looked good, seem constant color without clouds, they had to be less lazy on preparing. And if they didn't sand the old paint good it could start to peel. If you want quality it's best to prepare for painting yourself and give them only to paint it. And ofcourse negotiate for the price.

Old car problems. The body shop working on my E39 M5 left runs, primer divots, fisheyes, loads of texture, and sanding scratches in the finish. I would've rather payed 50% more than had to take it back again. -_-

@@nathanaeljonesmyfsd Oh man that's rough. That's about the quality you'd get from my garage that has exactly zero tools or materials for painting literally anything. I have a paint brush but I cut half the bristles off so I could fit it into a nook I was trying to clean in my car. Could have been a cranny...either way, it didn't work. I'm awful with paint brushes and those guys sound like they would hire me. Hope it gets better for your ride man!
@heineaugustjensen9819

Paint matching tends to be really hard if u dont have a great (and really expensive) scan tool and good software for calculating the mix. the colour code from bmw is standardized and should be right aslong as the painter weighs the paint right, but with 20 year old paint and sun comes slight changes in color. IMO either pay for a more expensive paintshop that has the scan tool and get tests, or just use the color code

28:00 for them to color match without the car it’s very difficult. You need to leave it with them for better results. That and or blend the panels.

I left the right mirror cap for them to compare and told them not to paint everything before verifying it matches. They didn't use the cap and just painted everything using the color code.

Actually, any painter here would refuse to do this job. It is simply not possible to match this unusual color.

@@razberik8320 ??? Here they can scan the code, by measuring reflective light, and match based on that, not simply by the damn color code.

I have watched many of your videos now. Personally I am an audi fan but your BMW videos are great. Your sense of humour is very similar to mine when working on cars. Your knowledge is amazing. Look forward to your future videos. Take care.

I had the Style 60s on my E46 330Ci over twenty years ago. I bought it from the main dealer in Frankfurt. That car is Imola Red II, a beautiful colour. I sold it to a friend in Frankfurt when I left Germany. He later sold it to a mutual friend in Italy, who later sold it to another friend in Italy. A wonderful car. It still runs perfectly, but needed a new coat of paint last time I saw it.
