Great review I mostly have the same experience with my m6 ii I noticed you can disable the touch shutter button by changing the Shooting info disp, it's a work around but it can be done ... one more thing I also noticed, If you have the Highlight tone priority on D+2 you can retain more details in video and photo and if I go back in time I would have bought it too :)

Fortunately the good far out weighs the bad so I’m still in love with this little camera.

Nice review! Now I'm seriously considering upgrading my SL2 to the M6MII. FWIW I love the touch shutter! When taking photos of kids, things move fast and I don't have time to compose the perfect shot down low. And when you're using a wide aperture indoors with more than one kid or baby, it's the only way I can capture the correct kid quickly before they move onto another spot. Perhaps even the correct eye...

Thanks. I think you’ll find it a great upgrade. I’ve been getting a few comments in the specific use cases for the touch shutter. I don’t mind the feature being there honestly, and I’m glad it’s useful for others. I just want the option to remove it from my screen rather that always having the toggle there. “Off” in the menu should mean “Off”. Not “Off until I accidentally touch the lower left corner of my screen”.

Hey Roj, You can totally use the C1/C2 settings to customize video settings. I use the video mode for high frame rate and the C modes for 60p and 24p when on video shoots (this way, all 3 video settings are next to one another on the dial). You just have to register whatever video settings you want in the orange menu for the C modes.
@RustyRoj2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can set them with secondary video modes available in all photo shooting modes, which is a good work around, but I was referring full feature video dedicated settings. I want to set video settings in video mode and be able to save those to C1 or C2, which you can’t currently do. You’re work around is a great idea though and I might need to do a video to point it out for those who don’t know. Thanks for the suggestion.

The touch shutter is useful when you want a stranger to take a picture for you. Most people are used to taking photos with a smartphone where you tap the screen to take a Pic. They get lost when you hand them a camera where you have to half press to focus and then full press to take a photo. Lots of times I would come back from a vacation and all the pics where I asked someone to take a photo were blurry
@RustyRoj3 жыл бұрын
I hadn’t thought of that as a use case. Really all I wasn’t is if I turn it off in the settings it stays off and isn’t able to be turned on unless I go back into the menu to activate it.

I’ve done low light videos as well as videos in very bright sun and they all turn out great as long as you know how to adjust the settings. This will be my main camera until I can upgrade to full frame. Then I’ll keep this for my secondary camera!

@@RustyRoj I would be perfectly happy with an R…for photography only, except the M6 Mark II does have a higher burst rate. But the R isn’t really much of an upgrade in the video department. R6 is likely what I’d upgrade to, but it’s such a lower resolution for photos, but the video is great. The R5 is an ideal upgrade for both photo and video. BUT…it’s expensive! The camera is expensive, the memory card is expensive, the lenses are expensive! Doesn’t make sense for a hobbyist to spend that kind of money unless the gear is what’s making your living.
@RustyRoj2 жыл бұрын
I agree. The R6 would be my choice if upgrading. The resolution isn’t too much of a worry as it’s a bigger sensor so would balance out somewhat. What I really want is an adapter for R lenses to work with the M6mkii. That way I can slowly build up a lens collection for when I do upgrade.

Thanks for watching. That’s interesting you found the 24fps not very smooth. I haven’t experienced any issues with any of the video modes except for when I’ve had the shutter speed set wrong, which is entirely may fault. Though because I’m in a PAL region I don’t often use 24fps as I need 25fps to avoid lights flickering. I might have to do some tests to see if I can notice anything.

@@RustyRoj I shoot in 23.976 fps, shutter speed: 1/50, and I edit in Davinci Resolve. I live in Europe, but decided to use NTSC mode instead of PAL
@RustyRoj3 жыл бұрын
I personally haven’t had much luck with Resolve as it always crashes on my PC. One of the reasons I started editing in my iPad with LumaFusion was because I couldn’t find a PC editor, I could afford, that worked for me. Maybe try something else like Hitfilm or Filmora (those have free versions or trials) to see if you have a different result? Since you’re in Europe, you might not find much of an advantage to using 24fps and might be better with 25fps (Though that doesn’t address the issue you are having directly) The only real advantage to 24fps is if you intend on also shooting in 60fps or 120fps for slow motion and don’t want to change between NTSC and PAL to do so. I might have a play with the different modes and see if I can replicate your problem. It would be an interesting experiment.

I don’t know this is fact but I have a sneaking suspicion as to why the smaller cameras are not where the sealed is because they cannot be completely closed up due to the heat dissipation that they have to perform. Those larger cameras have a lot more body surface area to dissipate heat so that might be why

You might be right. Given the M6mkII is the 90D but smaller, there’s a lot less room for components to breath. That said I’ve been under a waterfall with the M6mkii in a plastic rain cover and it was fine so it’s not the end of the world having no weather sealing.

The both shoot the same and have the same sensor so it come down to their physical properties. If you want the smaller, lighter setup then the M6 mkII. For a more rugged, heavier setup with weather sealing then 90D. That said the M6 mkII is cheaper. So bang for bucks it’s the winner but that might not be a big difference once you get a few accessories like a cold shoe bracket for a mic, the EVF and the Ef-S lens adapter. Best to check and Compare packages and specials.

If iPhone 12/13 Pro Max could give me contarsty and sharp pictures it is enough.
@RustyRoj2 жыл бұрын
Is this for product photography? Or is it an artistic pursuit? One thing you can’t get from any system that doesn’t have interchangeable lenses is good natural bokeh. The iPhone will take good sharp images and if you just need a consistent focal length it will probably do what you want it to but if you want to use proper depth and scale in your photography you will eventually find it limiting. That said if you are just starting out the iPhone is a powerful tool and if photography doesn’t work out you still have an awesome smartphone. I suggest if using the iPhone you download ProCamera or similar to give you more control over your photography than the standard app allows.

Do you feel shutter shock is a problem with photos?
@RustyRoj2 жыл бұрын
Not one I’ve encountered. Being a mirrorless camera there isn’t really a shutter as such. Not flipping mirror to cause vibrations. I’ve often used a 2second timer for longer exposure shots and not had any real negative effects from that short a time from pressing the shutter. If you are doing a long exposures however, I would recommend using the Canon app as a remote trigger so your hand isn’t messing things up when you use the Sutter button.
@dakotaxu47923 жыл бұрын
Here is why you need the touch shutter: because the iPhone and other smart phone are now more widely used by the masses to take photos, if YOU sir, the esteemed photographer were to stop a random person on the street and ask him/her to take a photo of you and the pretty girl with you, the chances are pretty high that they have never used a real camera and they have no idea what it means to press the shutter button half way down on your M6II before pressing all the way down to take the photo. This is where touching the screen of the M6II comes in handy. All they have to do is press the screen where your pretty face is and no more guessing!!

Pricing here is always significantly more than the US. Though since I made this video the M50 has come down a bit and now cost just over half of the M6MarkII. This is because of the M50mk2 which is about $1200, only $400 less than the M6MarkII. Regardless though, the M6MarkII is a significant set up, especially if you are using it for moth video and photography. I always say you should buy the best you can with in your budget regardless of brand or model. It’s more about what you make with it than what the specs say.
