This video will cover some of the marking and differences between the family of m95 rifles and carbines and stutzens. This video will serve as an overview to help you identify your rifle and help show when it was made and where it was used and some of the different markings and identifying features. This video will also cover a very quick bolt disassembly since it is so easy to do on the m95. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff. Please leave a comment with any questions, additional information, user experiences, or suggestions for future videos and I will do my best to answer them. As always thanks for watching.
Thank you,
Devin K.

Great video! I just picked up an m95 this weekend. It is serial number 937. It has a matching stock barrel receiver and a stamped bolt handle ball. All matching. The upper hand guard has been replaced. It's an old handguard as well. It matches the old wood. It's a cavalry carbine with the slings on the side. It's a beautiful gun in the boar is bright and shiny. I think I really scored! Thanks for all the info.

"I don't understand why people are afraid to take their military rifles apart..." I've been working on this bolt for over 2 hours now! I've done everything but obviously I'm not doing something. I can put everything together, minus the firing pin, and it goes back together perfectly! If I add the firing pin back to the bolt assembly, it will not go back together.

I finally figured put what the problem was. That flat piece had to be turned downwards just a bit in order to go back into the bolt. Now I've got two more to do!

Huge help man, preciate it! I just picked my rifle up today. Mine is a 1917 made Steyr, but it has the fancy S on it. There’s a lot to it that I’m having trouble with figuring out. I’d really appreciate if you helped me out, if you can. Merry Christmas!

@@DevinK I have a 2 stamped over a fancy S, and the S is further up on the barrel, it’s closer to the rear sight, and not on top of the acceptance marks. Unlike Bulgarian bolts, mine doesn’t have the exhaust port drilled in the top. I also have about four serial numbers stamped on the stock, two on each side.
@DevinK
@DevinK 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlashLight2317 so the s further up means it was retained by the Austrians and then later sold to the Bulgarians and they stamped it again.

Yes the Bulgarians had a simple s stamped further up not covering the proof marks on the barrel and the Bulgarians would have inspected it and restamped it when they got it.

Thanks but twisting that bolt to lock under the extractor to put it back in the gun was fucking hell for me. I have the fancy S Carbine with the side slings. Serial number 6869 and its electro penciled. The serial numbers matched. Mine is also all walnut I think.

I have an M95 Steyr retrieved during WW2 by my great uncle and sent back to the family. It does not have the S stamp. It has a 25 in the wood handgaurd on the left side of the rifle under the rear site and an 8 in the stock just above the magazine.

I have acquired recently 3 M95/30 or M95/34, however you want to identify them 1st - OEWG Styer , a Bulgarian long rifle rework to carbine/ stutzen length . It has the long rear sight , pressed on front sight & is under slung only 2nd - Styer a Austrian rework of a carbine/ Stutzen . Carbine length rear sight with a pressed on front sight and a press/ snap on front sight protector . It has unit markings on the top of the butt plate & it side & under slung 3rd - receiver has been scrubbed , H marked on barrel , Hungarian rework carbine / Stutzen . Has carbine length rear sight & dove tailed front sight ( orginal ) has front sight protector held on by two screws , side & under slung . On the butt plate it is stamped M - 5920 in big bold letters

I just picked up a ling rifle version that's in basically new condition for $100. Has the S mark signifying its conversion to 8x56r. Are they rare at all in this configuration? I have the sling too.

I was told another way to tell the carbine from short rifle is the carbine doesn't have a front sight hood, and the type of front barrel band/sling. Is this correct? Mine is a numbers matching (bolt, receiver) carbine, but my bolt won't stay open so the dime trick is a definite must.
@DevinK
@DevinK 4 жыл бұрын
The carbine and long and short rifles didn’t have front sight protectors and the carbines are only side mounted and the short rifles are under and side mounted that’s the only difference between the carbine and short rifle

So my bolt won't decock when taken out of the rifle. Even when in the rifle it takes quite a bit of force to get it to rotate into the camming grooves when in battery. Any tips?

Update: turns out the spring tail of the extractor was bent too far and was putting too much pressure on the bolt. Backed it off with a vice a bit and now its buttery smooth (well as smooth as a mannlicher can be anyway)

Hello Devin, I recently acquired a 6b47 helmet with a ruined chinstrap. Do you know how to remove the screws holding the chinstrap in the shell? as my standard flat head screwdriver doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

You need a spanner type screwdriver they sell at hardware stores or you can make one out of a coin half

Devin, We have an M95 that is a carbine, sort of, in that is has a plug that filled the portion at the hand that would have been the back sling ring but there is no corresponding hole going all the way through the stock to the other side had it actually been fully fitted with the complete rear carbine sling mount. The 2 front sling mounts are there but the one for the side mount is not angled nor is it swiveling. It is a hard loop of steel. Next, it has no "S" stamped on the barrel and no top barrel stamps other than the Steyr and M95 in place. Whatever top barrel markings that may have been there is only as on yours the very back towards the breech ring that looks like it may have been a "V". May have been worn off. Question then is that since in was never marked modified to the spitzer round is it possible this is not an 8x50R but an 8x56R non-spitzer chambering? In short not an 8x56RS, The long flat side bullet type? The reason I mention that is that I can take a 7.62 x 54R round which is 4mm longer than the 8x50R and it drops right in place with ease. I know this rifle is not meant to chamber this round (the Russian) but I was using it to see if the chamber would accept a 56mm length cartridge casing or not and if not tell us it has an 8x50R chambering. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! I have pictures galore if you wish and can contact me at merwin61@gmail.com if that is easier.

I have a 95 with a problem. When I go to slide the bolt out of the receiver, just as its almost completely out, the face of the bolt rotates and locks the bolt in place. Can't move it forwars or backward. Ever encounter this issue?

Yeah they all do that it’s a design problem just have to be very careful putting it in and taking it out one good way to help the problem is find s coin or washer to put between the bolt head and sleeve to keep it from rotating

By my understand, M95/30s and M95/31s are m95 carbines that were rechambered in 8x56r. By Austria and Hungary respectively. Is that correct? And what is the nomenclature for a m95 rechambered in Bulgaria?
