Why Ma Long has a powerful forehand.
Ma Long was training at the Werner Schlager Academy with Xu Xin. Let's study the forehand topspin technique of Ma Long. Why his forehand is so powerful? Coach EmRatThich explains the tips from the Chinese table tennis concept "power from the ground", "in pai" and how to play a powerful forehand technique in table tennis.
Special thanks to ppsmick and William Henzel has shared this footage.

Another description on power is thinking of the forehand the end of a whip with the off shoulder as the handle. The end of the whip has the most speed and yes you need to move forward for most of your shots. sometimes a spinier shot where the bat moves more up can be useful especially when moving a chopper in and out.

This is a great video. When would one be good enough to add the subtle wrist move. I’m a pen holder and it seems different from a shake hander?

This is so true dear coach. I think this is how Chinese forehand differs from that of European because I watched the forehand slow motion of Ma Long hundreds of times and learned the same technique but my European local coach is saying that I need to spin more than pushing forward. I just listened to him and nodded but didn’t believe in what he said. In European forehand style, I see they use only most power from their wrist and try to create too much topspin, which lacks power and speed. Whereas in Chinese style they use their power from waist oriented from the ground (as you said “power from the ground”). This has way more power and speed as compared to the European type of forehand. This is how I see the difference between these two kinds of forehand. Could you guide me through, if my analysis is wrong dear coach? Or any constructive feedback are always welcome from anyone. Thank you very much in advance😊🏓.
@ayushkrishnanchakravarthy5548
@ayushkrishnanchakravarthy5548 5 жыл бұрын
That analysis is partially true. If you notice the forehand technique of top European players like Timo Boll, Dima and Hugo - you will see that they also turn their body and use their core to generate spin and use the snap of the forearm to generate power. Chinese technique focusses more on the legs to generate power and spin. That's the way I see it.

You need to consider the chinese player use tackier rubber compared than europe
@yudistiraliem135
@yudistiraliem135 2 жыл бұрын
@@c4s4n0v44 the main difference rather than the top sheet comes from the fact that the foam are also different. Using brushing technique with tacky rubber will give more spin but also not enough power to utilize the bounce effect because it’s foam is so hard.

love all your videos, i learn a lot just watching and listening to you break things down I think you can try new videos that will be useful -- primarily taking certain pros or semi pros or even amateurs and brekaing down their form issues. We learn by imitating thebest, but we also need to see weaknesses (since we cant see or understand them ourselves!)

You said in one of your videos that the elbow should be elevated when performing the backhand loop in order to give more rotation to the forearm. If this is true, how can you make an effective transition from a forehand loop to a backhand loop? Are you suppose to keep your racket low and elevate your elbow at the same time when making the transition? Please explain, thanks.

I don’t know where the conclusions come from. Swinging like Ma Long, the ball doesn’t go into the net if you don’t use the body. It’s just weaker, slower recovery, and makes you tired faster (it’s like boxing with arms only vs with body+arm. It’s hard to last a minute with arm). And Ma Long and XuXin’s backswing starting from the ground, imo, is a style preference and not as important, but I could be wrong here. However, sounds like you’re just picking out things Ma Long is doing and roll with it.

I just got my hurricane 3 provincial not boosted and everytime i hit forward it always hit to the net but when i use my donic bluefire my spin is consistent. . Is there something wrong with my rubber or i need to adjust and generate more spin in h3? What should i do? My set up is hurricane 3 black donic acuda s2 backhand nd ovtcharov blade
@nickkick7556
@nickkick7556 5 жыл бұрын
gee tarr you will have too boost it bro. Just put 2 thin layers of like Falco and it will play much better. Also yeah your technique will have to change a little bit. When you loop just focus on weight transfer. When you get enough power the ball will travel over the net really fast with a cracking noise
@tampusjamesryan3405
@tampusjamesryan3405 5 жыл бұрын
Nix Nicky yeah i really need to boost.. i cant literally feel the ball whenever i hit chance balls and most of my forward will go to the net or out.. i cant understand my topspin. Its okay when im drilling but during match play it wont fit to my old game. I always hit forward when i see loose balls or high balls but with this hurricane it always go to the net or out cant feel the ball unlike my old european rubber

Can anyone explain the rally at 6:34? Gacina receives the serve and Ma Long responds with a super spinny slow ball, which Gacina just blocks lightly. But when Ma Long tries to chop it back it looks like the ball has heavy underspin, while it should've been a slight topspin - the reflexion of Ma's own topspin after the block. Where's the backspin come from if Gacina didn't slice the ball?
@johnsol70
@johnsol70 7 жыл бұрын
Gacina hardley cancelled the spin and it came back light spin(it doesn"t matter if light top,bottom), so the ball behaved like a dead ball. Anyway Ma Long chopped the ball late-under the table, a big no-no.
