I love the fact that Faputa uses the word "sosu" when speaking to Maaa. "Sosu" is used to display elegance, grace, and most importantly in this case, respect. When Faputa is slaughtering all the villagers, she doesn't use the word "sosu", showing that she has absolutely no respect for the villagers. But she uses "sosu" when speaking to Maaa, which means that she respects Maaa and potentially views them as an equal. TL:DR Faputa sees Maaa as a being that's worthy of great respect.

It is much worse in the manga. The anime at least made me understand what was actually going on. Unlucky for us, Tsukushi has most probably ran out of ideas and simply did not know how to continue Riko's adventure in an entertaining way. I can understand Tsukushi, though. If Made in Abyss was just a story about cave raiding, it would be similar to some National geographic show. Instead, Tsukushi decided to make it a story of people sacrificing everything to achieve their dreams, and it was a right decision. Sadly, given how many people ever visited the 6th layer, there shouldn't be many potential frenemies to make, therefore Iruburu, Faputa, etc.

It really saddens me to know that Maa died. She truly has the innocence of child and I think would have made a great traveling companion for Riko. I'm hoping that the author gives some kind of happy ending for Riko and everyone who has died (reincarnation, happy afterlife, etc.)

I’ve never seen this show nor do I know what it’s even about but the first clip I ever saw of this show was the clip of the Maa character being ripped apart. I thought “Wow, another anime with f@cked up scenes, I just feel bad watching this”. After watching this video, I guess the Maa character is ok and alive, so maybe I’ll give this show a chance one day.

Every cute character have something unsettling on them. Nanachi have goat eyes, Meinya have weird frog eyes, Faputa have scary eyes and teeth when angry and freaky arm anatomy (there are some long claws that usually stay hidden that she uses to manipulate delicate stuff and pierce reg's belly), etc

1: Is there a reason so many people think Maaa is a male? Did I miss something? My initial thought was that Maaa was female, like a little girl. In Doorbeetle Mani, Tsukushi calls Maaa the "heroine" of Volume 7. I know that Maaa obviously isn't human, and her character design doesn't give any indication, but Tsukushi himself called Maaa female. 2: Something that always kinda blows my mind is watching someone experience this story for the first time, and hate Maaa throughout the whole arc because of what she did the first time the party met her. Maaa clearly didn’t mean to hurt Meinya, she just likes adorable things. She even lost her most precious possession, the cute stuffed doll, as a consequence. She returns to save Riko from the hollows in the alley, guide/escort Riko around the village, help Riko in rescuing Vueko, moves to sacrifice herself to save Riko and Meinya from the blob creature, and cares for Riko when she collapses after using Prushka to empower Reg. She's more than made up for her initial wrongdoing. How can anyone hate her???
