This plastic gas tank restoration came out pretty good after many hours of work. I've always had a hard time restoring / polishing plastic. I usually end up overheating and melting whatever I'm working on (usually practice pieces). I discovered if you fill the gas tank with water it will keep it cool and prevent it from melting. The orbital sander does not do a good job at polishing plastic. In my case the trick was to use a drill (or a rotary buffer) with a clean wool pad and no cutting compound (dry buffing).

At first mother's aluminum polish but no compound works fine if you keep the tank cool

@@madmarc we I think when you applied the graphics you just peeled an stuck them right? But you can also spray soapy water down on the surface then when you apply the graphics to that you can slide them around and position them perfectly and squeegee out air bubbles too.

@@TheChaz81 No that won't work, I sprayed them down with alcohol to clean them. You just have to apply them slowly and carefully. And use a heat gun or blow dryer.

So just using a whool and no compound to give it the shine again. What kind of whool? Wouldn’t the compound bring the plastics color back too? Those Rare purple shrouds 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 such a great job.

I saw this video years ago where the dude polished plastic just with wool and no compound so i kept it mind. I've tried it before but always ended up melting the plastic. the reason it worked this time was cause the water in the tank kept it cool. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7F4mL2m2Mq4hIE.html the wool is just a standard natural wool drill attachment, i believe I got it from O'Reillys

I don't know the MPGs but all MX bikes are going to be similar. A trail bike would be better for mileage.
