Everybody in Bristol, TN was in attendance to watch the incredible Mac McClung of Gate City HS at the 2017 Arby's Classic. Gate City faced off against the #1 public school from North Carolina, North Mecklenburg High School. Mac finished the game with 26 points but Mecklenburg was just too much for Gate City today.

GC is a AA school from a tiny rural area. They just played a competitive game against a massive elite city school who recently went to the wire with the 5th ranked school in the country. Like...no shame in this loss at all. Gate City is a fucking powerhouse. They are all time for a school their size. I don't think any AA school in the nation could come within 30 points of North Meck. Just an insane instance of a small school being one of the most talented in the country.

Mcity Baller north meck is not an elite school. No doubt 0 is talented as well as team but they just got beat by another team. Coming from a school that plays north Mecklenburg. Great showing for NC basketball.

Darius James North Meck came within 5 points of beating a top 5 school in national rankings. They are ranked #1 in NC. Idk what it takes to be considered an elite team but that along with having 3 high majors does it for me.

It's ridiculous on its own a school with 500 total kids competes with a school outside of Charlotte. McClung and Irvin are just really special. I'm from the same area as them and it's rare to see this kind of talent in basketball

No shame in losing to a very good North Meck team. It's also worth mentioning North Meck was playing without their best player and starting PG Vaud Worthy this game as well. He's former UNC Tar Heel and LA Laker James Worthy's nephew I believe. Just imagine how good they could be when he comes back. Charlotte NC bball is really good this year! North Meck, Cox Mill, Providence Day, Butler, Independence, Rocky River, Charlotte Christian, etc... some really good teams in that city this year!

The team they played here lost by 5 to a team ranked 5 or 6 spots above shadow mountain. This was a really competitive game and was much close than the final. GC is a AA school with like 500 students from rural swva and North Meck is an elite city school with 2000 students. GC cant beat everyone in the nation but its really impressive they are such a small school that can definitely compete with national powerhouses.
