I was hoping Giovanni wasn’t gonna play like that but I guess he couldn’t help himself. Tiago did that same wack shyt last year. Every trick he did was something u needed to pop 3ft high. In my opinion it’s a dirty way to play & lane for us to watch. This is just one of many reasons why Battle at the Berrics will always be better in my eyes *side note. They need to rematch the girls final. Julia never attempted any trick on the picnic table & she did like 3-4 flatground tricks on offense

On one hand, I feel ya. On the other, it’s just a smooth ledge. it’s not magic. hell, it’s honestly surprising how almost nobody positions it creatively. - you can put it before the drop off small stairs - you can put it On the stairs as a hubba (one of the women did this on the small stairs) I’m amazed more skaters havens used it as a hubba - you could use it as a giant mani pad off the huge drop next to the big stairs - you could flip it upside down and skate its feet - you could stand it on its end at the bottom of a drop to make gaps longer in the end, though, by the rules, any skater can use any obstacle for up to half of their offensive turns, and that’s just the rule, and that’s ok. - some people are ledge skaters and they can shine there - some people like drops and gaps - some are tech on small stuff and some go huge on big stuff the whole point of SKATE is that being on Defense forces you to be Well-Rounded, to be able to play other people’s games offense can and should be Your comfort zone because that’s your best chance at letters, and “comfort zone” may be stances, or types of obstacles, or big & simple vs small and tech, or specific tricks the point of SKATE though (especially K/QoMACBA where you have to alternate offense and defense) is that, if you Only train your comfort zone, you’re going to lose to the cold reality of defense, when you find yourself in someone else’s world now, I know there’s a limit to this: when someone scores a letter with a trick, and then comes back to do the Exact Same Trick with a tiny variation, that’s wack. that’s bad sportsmanship. but it’s got to be ok to do half your offensive attempts on the same kind of obstacle, because there’s only a handful of them, and the other skater is allowed the same access to their own comfort zone now I DO respect and relate with and appreciate your want for an event that rewards Diverse skills, so… IF you wanted to diversify, then THiS is how I would do it: (it would be a very different competition that’s not SKATE) - begin with a list of every obstacle in the place (the Lip of the long ledge is different from the Pad across the top of it and the Gap over it, etc) - the game progresses through all obstacles on the official list, one at a time - at each obstacle, each skater gets one attempt to set a trick on offense and, if they make it, the other has to defend (so both skaters play the offense role and, if applicable, defend on defense) - each undefended offensive make gets a point - after all obstacles have been visited, whoever has the most points wins Now THAT would be a truly neutral test of whoever is the most well-rounded Otherwise we just have to accept that SKATE is fundamentally about challenging each other to hold our own in each other’s comfort zones. It’s the nature of the beast. Every game of SKATE is won by someone with a balance between core competency and general breadth of ability. You even see this in flatground-only SKATE like BATB. It’s just more subtle. Anyway, it’s just a thought… :)

Winning isn't just about landing your bag of tricks, it's about being able to land your opponents tricks too. Giovanni was by far the most consistent on defense throughout the entire series. He deserves the W.
