The thing is he's a victim of timing. He'd been rapping, spitting bars, inspiring people and laying it all out on the track for years but his tracks didn't blow like they could now. Granted they did what they were suppose to do ,evoke a feeling that you could relate to and he's made bangers but it feels like people miss the gold that this man has provided to the world. Now music like this is what would be popular and get the really big numbers because of the direction that hip hop has taken over the last few years.But since he's evolved and expanded to different sounds these older songs will be overlooked by a newer audience.....it's sad because this is the quintessence of who he is. He did everything the right way but because "sound" is more widely received than lyricism especially at this point in time, the best years of his career will not have had the full impact that they could've. It doesn't take away from all that's he accomplished so far because undoubtedly this man is a legend.(Opinions change but you can't change facts) but it's painful to see. From his first Kellyvision to where he is now you can literally track & see his growth and his evolution....and the scariest part is that it won't be until something happens to this man that he will then be appreciated for the phenomenon that he is. That everyone will realize what music needed was here all along.

I had a miscarriage when I was 19 and this song was like thearpy for me. His mom abandoned him when he was 9. His song *Story of the Stairs* is about his mom. Kell's just reconciled with his dad a few years ago. His dad attended his XXmas show in Cleveland that year. MGK addresses their relationship, reconciliation and finding out that his dad is terminally ill in "Death In My Pocket" from the Hotel Diablo album. He said that song was the hardest to write because of the regret.
