F.A.Q.
What is Sakuga?
Sakuga (作画) literally means drawing in Japanese. But Sakuga also means "artistically impressive animation".
What is a Sakuga MAD?
MAD stands for Music Anime Douga (Douga means video in Japanese). It's the same as an AMV. Sakuga MADs are compilations of great animation.

welp because stuff like this takes a lot of time to animate compare to 3D which is not really easy but it is not time consuming, But yeah i do agree with you that i would like to see some of this machine animation in the modern days. considering what technology we've finally advance towards.

@@JohnDoe-jg7lm I'm aware you're talking about the style. I was just telling you that the stuff in the video was much of the time recent, making your point seem a bit weird to make. And anime is older than you think.
@JohnDoe-jg7lm
@JohnDoe-jg7lm Жыл бұрын
@@Gustav_Kuriga Clips from Evangelion are already two decades old and Howl's Moving Castle is somewhere close to that. Considering that many people refer to shows released around the same time like DBZ, One Piece, and Naruto as classics, I think that calling Howl's Moving Castle and Evangelion "old" now isn't unreasonable. That put aside, this video focuses on a time when the steampunk genre was popular, which is hardly ever seen in animes nowadays; and especially not trending ones. Also, I'm well aware that anime has origins dating back to a century ago, but it has certainly changed quite a lot in over a hundred years' worth of time, for better or worse. They definitely don't make futuristic animes with as much detail as they used to.

3:16 There's something oddly satisfying about that overweight military guy with the gasmask pulling the trigger. The sluggish body contrasting his dynamic movement somehow conveys power while in a way also giving a sense of it being undeserved or unfitting, as if subliminally underlining him as the bad guy (which I don't know if he actually is).

@@cloudsanglant7719 Thanks for letting me know the name and context! Sounds like a short story that's left somewhat ambiguous. For those wondering as well, here's the synopsis from IMDb: »"Memories" is made up of three separate science-fiction stories. In the first, "Magnetic Rose," four space travelers are drawn into an abandoned spaceship that contains a world created by one woman's memories. In "Stink Bomb," a young lab assistant accidentally transforms himself into a human biological weapon set on a direct course for Tôkyô. The final episode, "Cannon Fodder," depicts a day in the life of a city whose entire purpose is the firing of cannons at an unseen enemy.«

What amuses me about older futuristic based media is that while they always envision spaceships, flying cars, sentient AI, teleportation and many others, that they for some reason, even when home computers were already a thing in the 90s and stuff thought of the fact somebody might make a little device you can carry that plays music, they always have just a more futuristic looking disc or something like that lol

If some of you are wondering how they achieved the glowing/light effect for the cels, they would use a light box under the animation stand. Skipt to 02:28 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gdholKuhs5rOaIU.htmlm28s Obviously now it's done by using software programs on the computer.

There is just something so satisfying about the use of images so fast they look like motion. I know that sounds redundant, but seriously, the lack of smooth 2D high-budget modern animation, especially in the West, leaves me hungry for more, to the point where I cling to and obsess over the few moments of true artistic 24fps animation in big productions. Thank you so much for compiling these. It's like getting a good fix after only having weak hits for months. I always need more.

ホントセル画ってアニメそのものに味を出しているよね。特にプロペラとかエンジンから吹き出る炎、ジェットエンジンもすき、しかも動きが細かい。しかもほぼ手書きだという…やはり歴代アニメーターは素晴らしい

That organic feeling contained inside traditional sakuga can't be replaced. It's just too powerful. It's a f@cking shame that animators didn't get what they deserved for their efforts.

Perhaps if possible, you could include that bit from "Castle in the Sky" early in the movie, when the elevator is being brought up from the mine shaft? Definitely hoping for some Sherlock Hound cuts, any whatever neat cuts you decide to include. One thing I've come to realize, is that your channel is one of the best sources of high-quality Sakuga MADs out there. Whatever you cook up next, it's bound to be good!
