I'm probably gonna tell you something you already know about, but Lazer Cutters/Engravers, like CNC machines must slow down, coming to a brief stop inorder to change directions on an angle. If you, however are cutting something out that you're planning on trimming the edges off of, let the machine do that for you. A gradual corner is much easier than a 90° angle.

What a machine! Mental what you can do in a shed these days, the possibilities are endless. Quick ideas - sports memorabilia targeted around certain times of the year on facey, could be state of origin plaques during that time, or Rugby world cup plaques as that hits. Even generic team ones as fathers day hits. The beauty Is that you make a template and example of each, then just make them to order, it's certainly quick enough!
@OakHillMillworks

Great vid, Mark! In case you didn’t experiment more yet, solid hardwoods are actually easier to cut through than plywood. All the glues and hollow spaces in ply mess up the beam and make for crappy cuts. Of course thicker woods means slower cuts but they are surprisingly clean on thicker material if it’s hardwood. Loved the video! I just got the F1 so I’ll be doing some testing of my own!

Dollar for dollar the best use I've found for my laser is customizing for customers for an upcharge, templates and artwork. I'm on my 4th glowforge with light use in (3 were on warranty.The laser tube has a life span to consider in costs as well. Time is the biggest expense though.

Another interesting video. I have been going back and forth trying to decide whether a laser or a CNC router will be my first automated tool. Plywood is a lot more difficult to cut with a laser than solid wood because of all the glued layers. xTool claims their cuts for solid pieces if I recall correctly.

Dainsey! 100% behind abandoning the first name in the grand aussie tradition. Onya mate! I agonized over getting the thickness planer (same one) because it's not even a side hustle for me - just a hobby. But it's paid off so much in making more of the little time I get in the workshop. So even the average weekend warrior punter like myself can get value out of it even if we're not making the bucks from our work. The thickness planer wad my second most important upgrade behind the dewalt table saw (light years ahead of the OH&S disaster that was the previous one)
@tonyblanco305

Awesome perspective as always. You make beautiful mallets and bowls on your lathe that you are already selling. Use the laser and customise those products that you already have. The engraving is faster than making whole parts and you can then sell your $75-$95 mallets for $150 or something similar because they have been customised for the buyer. Bigger profits for you on 5 min extra time spent loading the design/name into your software. Just a thought.

@@dainermade Thank you! I try to pick up as much as I can from every video I watch. It might not be a big goal to get stuff for free but it certainly is nice when it happens. I recently got a tool (for metalworking) for my shop that I've wanted for years for absolutely free because a company was running a giveaway. I wouldn't have normally bought it because I just couldn't justify the $700+ price after shipping (the item in question is a swage block that's about 150 pounds). It's been super useful and it'll make it a lot easier to forge hardy tools for my anvil among a million other uses. Wish I would have gotten one a while ago! Anyways, thanks for the reply. Cheers man.
