Sometimes a flip jig isn't enough. For situations like those, creative setups and workholding can help you machine more complex shapes from more than 2 sides. Here's how I set up the machining of some STL files from Thingiverse.

I want to like the Nomad. My only issue is the 3 inch height limit. A Sherline Mill gives larger limits for less cost. And I'm honestly having the same hang ups on the Shapeoko, I like it a lot, but it needs to have a 4 foot (or even 5 foot for Baltic Birch Ply) capacity in at least one direction, preferably with the stock being able to slide through for indexed larger cuts.

About 3 hours to rough, though I could have been a little more aggressive with speeds and feeds. About 2 hours to finish, but more if you want to go crazy and use a 1/32" ball endmill. That part is pretty quiet though, so I'm more than happy to just let it run in the background. -W

I'm curious how the Nomad would perform with a deeper tool engagement, and less radial engagement to compensate? Even if it would complain some, it would not matter much while only roughing. I have a feeling the machine would handle this quite well :)

@shirothehero0609
@shirothehero0609 4 жыл бұрын
@@Audio_Simon California air tools has a good little ultra quiet compressor that is great for things like a constant air blast. Several CNC manufacturers recommend them. Outside that, you need a high capacity tank that won't overload the compressors duty cycle to keep a constant air flow. Granted, it only needs a few psi, but most pancake compressors aren't up to the task.
@Audio_Simon
@Audio_Simon 4 жыл бұрын
@@shirothehero0609 I tend to run mine at 30PSI and the compressor stays on pretty much 75% of the time.

You could rough it out in a little under 3 hours with some optimation, the remainder of the time depends on how fine you want your finishing toolpaths to be.

It seems to me like the "Carbide Create" channel should be focusing more on the Carbide Create software. I don't see lots of people posting up questions about how to design and make tiny owls with a risky process "not for the faint of heart." Carbide Create Pro is a 3D software that most people don't have a clue how to operate. A few people are using it to varying degrees of success but that is due to trial and error......not tutorials. Sure if you want to design a basic a change tray with 4 triangles and a textured lip there is one instructional video but as far as diving into each feature and how to utilize those to create a project you dream up.... There is nothing. It just seems to me that the Carbide Create channel should be focusing on Carbide Create. I'm not saying Winston should not do whatever he wants but do that on one of your personal channels and we can enjoy them there.

This is the Carbide 3D channel, not the Carbide Create Channel. I agree that there are few videos focused on the Carbide software but while the Carbide CNC can produce these type of projects, it would be impossible to design them in Carbide Create. If they showed only projects designed in CC, Carbide 3D would be unable to show the true capabilities of the Nomad and Shapeoko.
